Annotated Bibliography: Climate Change in China

1st Source: Our choice

Hsu, Sara. "Is China's Pollution Accelerating Climate Change?" Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 09

Sept. 2016. Web. 06 Feb. 2017.

Sara Hsu addressed in her article a few reasons as to why China is one of the main contributors

of climate change such as their alarmingly high emission rates of greenhouse gases. She also

stated interesting facts like how 1.6 million people die in China each year due air pollution alone.

This article was useful for my theme of climate change in China because it addressed lightly how

climate change has been accelerating over recent years. However, this article failed to talk about

climate change in more depth. There was only one paragraph that talked about climate change;

the rest was about how China is trying reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and compared

those rates to those in other countries like America.

2nd Source: Scholarly article (couldnt find a book)

"Climate Change Impacts on China's Environment: Biophysical Impacts." Wilson Center. N.p.,

28 Sept. 2011. Web. 06 Feb. 2017.

This scholarly article that was on Wilson Center examines the problems China is facing due to

Climate change. It also addressed how dangerous some of these changes can be for the people

living in China. This scholarly article did a great job of explaining in depth how climate change

is affecting the country. For example, it talks about rising sea levels due to melting glaciers and

an increase in natural disasters. This article was great for my theme; it did not lack anything.

Everything stated in this article was explained well and there is no lack of information. The only

thing that could have made this article better was to ask someone living in China for their

perspective on the matter. If this article had done this, it would have been perfect for my theme

of climate change in China.

3rd Source: Scholarly article

Kan, Haidong. "Climate Change and Human Health in China." Environmental Health

Perspectives. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Feb. 2011. Web. 06 Feb.

2017.

This scholarly journal entry goes into even more depth about climate change in China than any

other article I have read so far. It also talked more about how the government is limiting their

focus on how climate is affecting the health of the people in China. This scholarly journal entry

did a very good job of stating important facts that had not been addressed yet by other articles.

An example of this would be how there are another two pollutants that are being emitted in

immense amounts from China. Those two pollutants are methane and black carbon which are

huge contributors to global warming. It also described the types of natural disasters that can

happen because of this climate change. This article could not have done anything better; it was

perfect for my theme of climate change in China. Everything about this article is useful to me.

4th Source: News article

www.nytimes.com/2017/01/06/world/asia/china-smog-pollution.html

This news article talks about life in China and how most people in China are used to the smog.

The smog does not even bother them anymore, sometimes they even consider themselves lucky

because it is fresh smog. The people in China believe that it is a magical place. The authors

Chris Buckley and Adam Wu did a great job of explaining Chinas conditions at the moment as

well as what the people have to say about it. The one thing this article lacked was depth. It

touched the surface of a lot of different subjects but it never really went into depth about any of

them. By the time it did, the article was wrapping up. This article needed to be longer and give

more information about the topics addressed.

5th Source: Our choice

Biello, David. Everything You Need to Know about the U.S.China Climate Change

Agreement. Scientific American, 12 Nov. 2014,

This article talked about all of the nations and compared them to one another. For example, the

U.S. is finding ways to reduce their current pollution trajectory and lower it throughout the years.

Other nations are trying to follow suit since climate change is starting to become a real problem

that the world needs to address. This article addressed that the main problem is that every nation

is facing. Burning coal is the main contributor but it is more than seventy percent of what

provides energy for our nations. This article did a great job of explaining what plans each nation

is making to address these problems and reduce the amount of pollution. This article did a great

job for what it claimed to talk about. Like the title perfectly explains what is going to be talked

about in the article itself.
