Eureka Moment 4

1. One effective engagement strategy that I have used is weird and silly
problems like what animal is responsible for eating and spreading avocado
seeds and why do corpse flowers smell like rot. These require the students
to start thinking through these problems and to get into that mode of thinking
scientifically and hypothesizing potential answers to questions they dont
know the answer to. It has worked pretty well so far and the students really
seem to enjoy them.
2. The formative assessment strategies I have used so far are worksheet
reviews that arent graded. I give them out towards the end of class if
students finish up early and have them work on them. Sometimes they are
about just what we did that day, sometimes they bring up topics from the
first semester. We then go over them as a group and the students have a
chance to fix any mistakes and ask any questions.
