Students will explore the area of a triangle through review of area of a square through
real life application of knowledge.

Before

Pose students with first question: Projected on Whiteboard

Have students define area, revisit the formula, and answer the question in pair share
groups. Tables will then check their work and fix any problems.

Students and teacher will come together work though the problem with student
suggestions. Clarify any problems and move into the second question.

*teacher will observe, assist any students struggling.

*students will be assisted by other students to make sure that no child is left behind

During
Pose students with second question, answer any questions students have.

Have students answer the question in pair share groups. Teacher will check tales
periodically, pose questions to steer students in the right direction or to get them back
on track. Tables will then check their work and fix any problems.

*teacher will help students draw pictures if needed, clarity directions as needed and
help guide knowledge at all levels

After
Students will have the opportunity to present their method of finding the answer. As a
class we will determine the findings and see what the best methods to finding the
answers could be.

Students and teacher will come together work though the problem with student
suggestions. Review the area of a square and triangle and set the foundation of future
exploration of polygons.
