I had taken a shower to wash off
the sticky salt of the Naguamsett
River going into the Devon was like
taking a refreshing shower itself.

wouldnt be back this fall. Thats

The windows near the ceiling were
small and dirty, the old leather
furniture spilled its innards, the
tables were mutilated, the walls ash-

They're ruining skiing in this
county, rope tows and chair lifts and
all that stuff. You get carted up, and
then you whizz down. You never get
to see the trees or anything.

Why do the people who go to Devon
so interested and talk about the
rivers so much? People today do not
talk about rivers as much as these
students do. Why do the go into
rivers more than pools? (Q)
Brinker is that kind of person who
never lets down a conversation.
Brinker is a positive student at
Devon that never lets awkwardness
fall in a conversation, and knows
how to get involved and have a
conversation.(R)
This could be important because
Brinker may be right about Genes
decision to pick Finny as a
roommate. Maybe Gene caused
Finny to get hurt on purpose
because Gene might have wanted
his own room. This could ruin the
friendship between Gene and Finny.

This paints a picture of the Butt
room as a dark and mysterious
room. The Butt room is probably an
old room that has been apart of
Devon for quite some time which
would mean that is very old. (V)
This is a reflection of Leper. Leper is
obviously an environmentalist since
hw is criticizing it. He believes that
skiing is about sight seeing and not
going as fast as you can. Not very
many people think this way which
makes Leper unique.
I predict that Gene will soon have to
enlist because they are going to
reduce the age down to his age 17.

In this quote personification is being
used to describe the war. Those
analogies seashore and war are in
play because Devon is right by a
beach so of course people by that
area would use those analogies too.

I thought it anything but a bad This creates a visual of the locker

smell. It as preeminently the smell
of the human body after it had been
used to the limit, such a smell as has
meaning and poignancy for any

school. Gene describes it as a place
where all the sweat and over
working bodies hangout which is a
good allusion considering the school
they are in.

This connects to the people in our
society too. Soon I predict that we
will end up in a depression just like
the 20th century depression just
because we will become greedy and
not to be able to do more work
because we are too lazy.
