Project Description:
The "Steps to End the Unbeaten Disease" event will be hosted at Java Surf Caf & Espresso Bar

with various businesses, organizations, and influential individuals who have joined the fight
My paper was a research study/analysis of the new forms of cancer research and therapy in
todays world. Treatments such as Proton Beam therapy and Medical Marijuana have been found
to be very beneficial to the fight against cancer. I used my project as a way to reach the victims
of cancer while making my impact more personal and direct to them. By raising almost $4,500 I
was able to make non-insured necessities affordable for these families facing pediatric cancer.
Although I have been a patient in the same hospital that I donated to, I am not in many ways experienced
in this area. During my interview process for my paper, I was able to learn a numerous amount of things
that I hadnt known before. I was able to learn about patient care, procedure, end-of-life care, and much
more. Because I was able to learn all of this from the doctors and child care specialists at CHKD, I was
able to have a much better understanding of who I was donating to and why I was doing it.
First and foremost, I would ask that the judges look deeply into my passion for this project and its effect
on the lives that it has been designed for. This project took a lot of willpower and determination. I knew
along the way that it was up to me to decide how the end result would be, and instead of going through
the motions, I spent weeks going door-to-door and making calls to find a larger base of support for this
project. I have done more networking and making new friendships as a result, and I was able to connect
with my long time hematologist, and close friend, Dr. Herbert Bevan. Overall, I wish that my impact on
the lives of these families be recognized as a selfless act that was completely meant to do good for the
community.
