A. Personal Statement
Dental Hygiene is an evolving career that requires constant advancement in clinical hygiene care, education
and research. Undergoing Bachelors in Biology and Dental Hygiene, I was able to participate in research
and teaching opportunities. My involvement in teaching began while I started mentoring and teaching my
brother since 1st grade. I later became a tutor for 4th and 5th grade kids. Some of my duties as an
undergraduate preceptor at UNC Charlotte involved teaching and conducting workshops/study sessions three
times a week, providing one-on-one tutoring, designing and or creating active learning activities, lessons and
quizzes, and assisting the professor with grading. My teaching experiences have been enriched further by
the invitation I received to share my knowledge and expertise to the University of the Pacific Dental Hygiene class
of 2017 and first year dental students of the class of 2018 with instrumentation and radiology. Such experiences
continue to motivate me to excel in the field of dental hygiene education.
