Assignment 3 plans

In this assignment I will be putting totgether evidence of the range from units and assignments
throughout the course. The range covers ILP, Timelines and milestones. I will be illustrating to show
evidence of me doing this work.

Plans

ILP

The ILP which I used throughout this assignment and I made sure I used my time wisely to
meet the deadline and I did this as you can see.

The use of time management really helps me complete the assignment because when I did
something that day I can write up in the ILP so the next day I can see what I did the previous
lesson which really helps me knowing what I that lesson.
For this ILP it was the full unit so as you can see the red is the different days and the yellow
highlight is to show when the deadline is and the reason why its highlighted is because I
need to know when the deadline is before working on the project.
Timeline

The timeline is also used in some assignments, which are normally for software skills and creating
assets. For this assignment, it was used in assignment 3 78 unit and we made graphics for the unit.
The reason why we used is that it helps to know what5 stages there is to the unit and how the
assignment plans out. We create this before we actually start the assignment so we can see what
days we should be starting on something different.

Milestones

Milsestone are a document, which shows you how well you are doing the unit and if you came into
any struggle with anything. It is very similar to an ILP although it is in a different layout and if doesnt
do the updates in sessions instead it is in days. It is not as accurate as the ILP because the ILP allows
you to write about each session.
As you can see the sections are based on the units and it shows the different parts of the
assignments then you put if you created them.

Legal and ethical

Copyright law originated in the United Kingdom from a concept of common law; the Statute
of Anne 1709. It became statutory with the passing of the Copyright Act 1911. The current
act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The laws were implemented to make
sure people who created some kind of work and prevent people from stealing your work to
benefit themselves.
Before this law was an act people could copy someones work and claim that the work was
from them. This was a big problem to companys so they decided to have this act mainly on
the web due to it is open to the world and it is easier to steal work from the web such as
images, videos and music. These assets are included in my product so this is why I need to
consider where I get my assets from. The copyright law protects the IT industry because
mainly copyrighting takes place on the web.
Assets
Videos are popular target for copyright. Videos online such as YouTube are sometimes
copyrighted so no one can use their video for beneficial purposes. The person who creates a
video (the creator), such as somebody who records the video, will generally be the owner
of the original copyright. However, if it was created as part of the creators job, the
employer will generally own the copyright. Videos on the internet may have the copyrighted
symbol in front of the image to prevent anyone using it however some videos dont. The
copyright symbol does not have to be present for copyright to exist, so just because there is
no name or copyright symbol associated with a photo or video does not mean the copyright
has expired. If you want to gain permission to use the video you will need to contact the
owner who is the creator of the video and sort an agreement. Most of the time the
agreement is through paying for the video however you may not have to pay. They might
ask you to instead of gaining full copyright of the video you could just get permission to use
it. This is the same with other assets such as images
Software can be a copyright problem too. If you buy a software package legally which allows
you to use the software for yourself this means that you do not own that software. The
software company allows you to use it but only for yourself so you cannot claim the product
to be yours or illegally transfer the software to someone else. Also some websites offer
instructions on softwares which are required to be bought. These websites provide crack
codes to allow users all over the world to use the software for free and this is illegal. Each
software usually contains a license to that individual computer. If the software is on a disk
therefore it can only be used for one computer machine. However, people burn the
software onto another disk and give the software to another person. This is illegal and
would need to buy another license in order to use it again. This law is the same with schools
where each computer must have a different license.
In order I do not break any laws or offend anyone I need to make sure I do not get all my
images from a copyrighted source and I do not copy anyones work without permission. If I
want an image or video I need to contact the owner and ask them for permission before
using it in my product.

Ethical
When creating a multimedia product you need to ensure that you make the assets included
in the product suitable for the target audience. For example, if the target audience were
kids you will need to ensure that anything you put in the product that wont offend the
users. In addition, this protects such as racist comments which will offend people and affect
the product. This will always be breaking the law and could cause many problems. People
may be most likely to break the law on the internet because people may think that theyre
anonymous. However, you can be tracked and found so everything needs to be considered
before publishing to the world. There is rules that can help you to avoid is.
- You are not allowed to use a picture, video or sound unless the person who has full
control of the assets give you permission to use them.
- You cannot make a written statement of someone, which could offend them, and
any abusive language which could affect their reputation.
- You arent allowed to use anyones piece of work without permission (copyright law)
- You have to be careful that you dont offend someone this goes by
- Race
- Gender (female and male)
- Sexuality (homosexual and heterosexual)
- Disability
- Nationality
- Class ( higher class or lower class)
- Age ( adults and children)

On my product, I made sure that I did not breach any of the above. I made sure that the
product was suitable for anyone for example different races and made sure any content on
my product would not offend anyone. I did this by not using images and any video content
that are copyrighted so I will not break any laws. Also not using anyones work this includes
any assets or design of the product. Another way I did not break any ethical rules is that I
made sure that the text in my product did not have any abusive language and made sure it
is suitable for my target audience.
Brainstorm
For this assignment, we were creating a brainstorm to come up with ideas on the cereal bar.
Here is the document in which I used the brainstorm. As you can see, there is different
headings on the topic and it shows the different parts of the brainstorm.
Brainstorm

I have developed a brainstorm with a group to come up with ideas on the topics I have been given for this
assignment. There were four topics that I can choose from and I will be brainstorming each one of them to
decide which the best topic is for me. I will begin the developing of the topic after I have chosen a subject to
do for an advert.

Cereal Bar

- Need to create the bar packaging name and slogan. (this could be done in Photoshop)
- Camera will need a close up of the bar so viewers can see the cereal bar.
- Voice over may need to be required. Also, need to make sure that the sound quality is good and very
clear.
- Props may be required.

With all the preparations and planning I will need to make sure I have everything I need to make this advert.
For example, I will need a room for myself to film the advert in which I have chosen one of the media rooms in
the college.

College

When filming my advert, the scenery needs to be able to fit the purpose of the advert and I will need props
and actors for the advert. In addition, a voiceover will be required because it is very common for adverts to
have voiceovers. I will have the voiceovers when showing the product so I can talk about the ingredients of the
cereal bar or the features of the shoes. This allows me to target the audience and attract them more to the
product.

Radio TV program

- I will need radio presenters and DJs to present the show and a playlist of chart songs.
- For the filming I could record it in a media room or dram studio within the college.
- The actual advert will have audio playing through the advert and it will be a voiceover of the
presenter and music from the charts.
- I will need an editing software which I can edit and put together the advert.
- I will create the logo of the radio show by using Photoshop and I can get ideas of some logos from
other radio shows.

For the radio advert I will need to do a lot of research of other radio stations so I can get an idea of how
they execute the show. Most advert trailers can be put together quite simply but for mine I will make sure
that the audience will remember the name by adding a slogan and making the voiceover noticeable.

Brand of trainers
- I could film the advert in some areas but I think it will be better to film outside because the trainers
are meant to be worn outside in that kind of environment.
- Depending if my brand of trainers is a sporty trainer or casual I will need to consider and what
activities I can do.
- I will have close ups of the trainer so the audience can see the detail of the trainer and also the logo.
- There will be audio playing in the background which will be a voiceover and music in the background
whilst I film the trainer.
- I may need 1 or 2 actors to film the trainer because it could be more appealing if more people are
involved.
- I will have a close up and slow motion of the trainer when the actor is walking to show off the sole of
the trainer and how the trainer looks when walking or running.
-

I have decided for this task to do a radio advert.

The reason I have decided to do a radio advert is because I am more appealed to music than the rest of the
topics and I feel that with the skills I have with editing programs I can create a good advert, which will be
appealing to the audience. I will need to do a lot of research before I start to create the advert so I will plan my
age group and gather ideas from other radio shows to benefit mine and make my advert better.

I feel that if I get professional radio presenters and DJs for my radio program It will gain exposure to the
audience if they are well known presenters or DJs. Therefore, I will need to choose my presenters wisely
because they are one of the most important assets of the show. In addition, I will need to make sure that the
music and news updates are high quality so I will need to have a weather and news presenter there as well
which will inform the audience on the news and updates on the area.

For my advert, I will make sure that the target audience is met and the filming of the advert is appropriate for
them. I will do the voiceover in my advert because I can use editing programs to change the tone and pitch of
the voice so it sounds like a presenter is speaking over the music. The voiceover will cover the presenters and
DJs that are on the radio show and the music that will be played.

Proposal

Proposal
Proposal
In this proposal, I will be writing about a new band that I have created which is called the
pixels and I will create all of the promotional material. The band will be playing typically
around the Manchester based area. This individual task is about creating a proposal, which
describes, develops and establishes what concepts, formats, dimension layouts, content,
formats and images I would agree to be suitable within the album art and poster, which
meets the brief/scenario.
The storyboards consisted of creating a front cover, back cover, logo and tour poster and
these were out drafts that we had to create and I think it came out the way that it should
have compared my Photoshop file. The only other documentation we had to keep is a digital
diary to show the whole process that we have completed every day that shows what we
created in-between those sessions and this was basically made to be a tutorial so that
someone who sees my graphic will be able to create it off of my diary, this also helped me
keep to schedule the only other documentation was some research and a proposal that we
did to introduce into the unit. In addition, the other documentation is this evaluation.

Concepts
For the concepts of the assignment, I need to distinguish what sort of band the pixels will be
and what material I should create for it. I have decided to make the band an indie/ rock
band and the reason why is because I think it will be unique. I need to make a CD cover and
a poster, which will relate to this genre. The kind of theme of the band is quite similar to
oasis. I have done this because Oasis are my favourite band and I know the style of their
music is very popular.

Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their
record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year the band recorded
(What is the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer, Alan White, formerly of Starclub,
in the midst of a chart rivalry with Britpop peers Blur. Along with Suede, Pulp and Blur, Oasis
came to be regarded as a component of the Britpop "big four and the Gallagher brothers
were featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their sibling disputes and wild lifestyles. In
1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now (1997), and although it became the
fastest-selling album in UK chart history, the album's popularity tapered off quickly, but not
before selling 8 million copies. McGuigan and Arthurs left Oasis in 1999 as the band went on
to record and release Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000).
My band will be somewhat similar to oasis however, I will not copy their songs or any of
their material I will make sure that the work I produce and material is original.

Select format
Before starting this proposal, I looked at the different ideas for the format, which will be on
my album cover, and last year I did a similar assignment and created a band called pixels,
which means I already have some graphics I can use. The logo for my band is quite simple
but I do think that it fits its purpose. As you can see, the band is in the background of the
logo and I have added the text, which is the bands name so it makes it clear to the
audience. The colour scheme for the brand album and logo is black grey white and light
blue. I think that the

Content
For the content, it is very important that the content be up to standard because this is the
base of the project. All of the assets I provide must be good quality to ensure that the
project runs smoothly. My band is the same sort of genre and content as the famous band
Oasis and this is the core I will base my project on. The discography of the English rock band
Oasis consists of seven studio albums, one live album, five compilation albums, six video
albums, one extended play, twenty-nine singles, nineteen promotional singles and thirty-six
music videos. The band have sold an estimated 77 million records worldwide which makes
them one of the highest selling music artists of all time and have also been cited by Guinness
World Records as the most successful act in the United Kingdom between the years 1995
and 2005. Oasis was formed in 1991 by vocalist Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul "Bonehead"
Arthurs, bassist Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll they were later
joined by guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher. The band signed to Creation Records in
May 1993 and released their debut single "Supersonic" the following year; it peaked at
number 31 in the United Kingdom.
I will ensure the content is not copyrighted in anyway because this is my own project and I
should create all of the assets on my own without copying any of other assets from bands
however, I am going to get inspiration. This is why my logo is similar to the Oasis logo
because I have took inspiration from the logo and created it into my own logo.

Consideration of audience
For the project, it is very important that the audience be taken into consideration because
the content is targeted towards them so I need to ensure that all assets and other formats
are towards the audience. The target audience is 18+ and I have decided this because some
lyrics in some songs from the bands album may contain curse words so I need to make sure
that the audience is suitable. This is the same with Oasis some of the lyrics contain
inappropriate words that might not be suitable for kids so there target audience is quite
high but many teens listen to their music.
If I do not target the audience correctly, it could make the band not successful so I do need
to make sure that all of the assets and songs are targeted towards my age range. The usage
of the audience will be also important because I will need to define the audience. The songs
I personally think are targeted towards the audience genre however, I have made the assets
towards the audience as well and there might be a possibility of a brand to be made just like
the lead singer of Oasis Liam Gallagher has his own label brand.

Layout Design
The layout design is very important to the project because I need to consider what content I
will put on the assets and the different dimensions. For the CD it is vital that I have the
dimensions correct because when printing the design I will need it to fit on the CD cover.
The finished dimensions for the outside of printed CD covers are 4.724 inches square. Many
printed designs include bleed. The "bleed area" is an extra 1/8" of space for design elements
or backgrounds to extend beyond the finished size of your piece. A CD cover with bleeds is
printed slightly oversized (4.974 inches square) and then cut down to size, giving the
appearance that the printing "bleeds" off the edge of the cover rather than having a white
border.
The finished dimensions for the inlay card are not square to accommodate the fold needed
to make the spine.

Input and manipulation of images

Creating my graphics and assets are vital to the project and I need to make sure I have them
at high quality and take my time making the assets. I will be creating my graphics in the
software Photoshop and the reason why I am using this program is because I have
experience with the program and I think it is very easy to create my assets in the software. I
will be creating a logo and an album cover so I do need to make sure that all of my assets
are the correct dimensions. I have already created a logo in a previous assignment so I do
not need to create a new one however I could adjust the logo and make it more relatable to
the band but I do think that the current logo I have is high quality and good enough.
In the logo, I have the band featured into the background and I have done this because this
makes it more appealing to the audience and it shows what the band looks like.

Selection of style and tone

The selection of style for the band is unique I personally think. The band songs are indie/
rock style, which has been used before, but I feel that the band will have their own identity
and make it original. The assets are also unique because I have not seen the logo and the
storyboards I have created. The colour scheme of the whole theme for the style is light blue
grey and black. The reason why I have chosen this colour scheme is that I think it is
aesthetically pleasing to view and the colours stand out so when the album is out it will
stand out from the rest on the shelves in the music stores.
For the project, the style of the assets and band will make the band successful because if the
style is not good and not unique it will not be popular within the viewers and public. I need
to make sure that everything I do and create is my own personal creation so I do not copy
any other band out there.

Considerations of limitations and advantages of format

Limitations for this project may be a problem but I will make sure for the deadline I
complete the project. The limitations could be that the software I will use could fail and
corrupt my project however; I need to make sure that I save my work every 10 minutes to
ensure I do not lose any of the work. I have also made sure that my work is up to standard
and saved different copied in formats so it can be accessed easily.
The different formats I will be saving my work on depends on the program. For Photoshop I
have made sure that I keep the original file so I can go back and edit it and I will have
exported it as a PNG, which is an image file. This file will allow me to import the image in
different software programs.
Deadline schedule
The deadline for this assignment is Tuesday so I do need to make sure that everything is
finished by then and up to a high standard. I have made sure that I spend my time wisely
throughout the assignment and I have done this by creating an ILP. The ILP is a word
document which shows the different things Ive done in the sessions so after a session I
write up what I did that lesson so when I come back and I can see what I did the previous
lesson.
Every assignment I do I make sure I try to meet the deadline which is required however for
the first lesson I was ill so I need to make time so I can meet the deadline.

Below are the scans of the 3 assets which are the logo poster and cd cover. They are all
taken on a camera then imported into my proposal. I made sure that the images were high
quality so that the client can see the sketch properly.
LOGO
Above is the proposal for the assignment 54 assignment 2 and it covers all the
different ranges for the client and I talk about the designs I made on
Photoshop and sketch. Part of the assignment was to make sure that the
graphics were the correct size and I did this.
The layout design is very important to the project because I need to consider
what content I will put on the assets and the different dimensions. For the CD
it is vital that I have the dimensions correct because when printing the design I
will need it to fit on the CD cover.
The finished dimensions for the outside of printed CD covers are 4.724 inches
square. Many printed designs include bleed. The "bleed area" is an extra 1/8"
of space for design elements or backgrounds to extend beyond the finished
size of your piece. A CD cover with bleeds is printed slightly oversized (4.974
inches square) and then cut down to size, giving the appearance that the
printing "bleeds" off the edge of the cover rather than having a white border.
The finished dimensions for the inlay card are not square to accommodate the
fold needed to make the spine.

Meet requirements and feedback

Feedback is a very important part of any assignment because when producing
a product for the client and the target audience.
The analysis of the questionnaire allows me to show the feedback I got from the target
audience from the questionnaire. The reason why the questionnaire is great for feedback
because I can distinguish what my target audience likes about the products and also what
they dont like which is very important because I can take that as constructive critism and
take it on board to fix the problem.
Feedback from the peers and target audience is vital to this assignment because I was
creating graphics and assets for the client so I needed it to be up to a high standard. Also the
requirements were met for the assignment brief which was the main priority.

Evaluate against requirements and constraints

Evaluation
Effectiveness

Extent to which brief has been realised

For this assignment I have been given a certain ammount of time to finish it and this will include
creating all of the graphics for my new band and the brief states that the band should have a target
audience and the graphics should relate to a specific target audience. In this evaluation I will be
going through what I think are my strong points throughout this assignment and how I could
improve on the assets I have produced. I will also talk about the different methods I used to
complete the work to deadline.

Use of methods and techniques

When creating my logo, I wanted to make a clean and professional logo. I got the idea to make the
logo professional because I searched on the internet other clothing companies and saw a lot of logos
which looked professional. I needed to make the logo stand out and be noticeable so the users will
be able to remember the logo. My intentions were to make the logo straight from Photoshop
however I found out it will be difficult to do this. I looked online for logos to get an idea of what I
should have on mine and I came up with having a target as the background and then some text over
it which is obviously the bands name "the pixels"

I wanted to create my logo in Photoshop because this is the program I am more familiar with and I
think I will be able to create the logo I want. The canvas size for my logo is 545 x 550. I have made it
this size because I think it is big enough for other assets I will be creating for example a poster and
CD cover. I made sure that the resolution of the file would be high quality so it will look good on any
platform. I will be using various tools such as Effects, e.g. layer effects, filters, channels; image
adjustments. The types of effects I have used are Outer Glow This gives the image a faded light
surrounding which is quite nice looking. You can also change the outer glow to a more intense,
precise so that it is only a thick outline around the image. Also Bevel and Emboss creates text and
images a 3D effect as well as customizing how soft you want the 3Dness to be or alternatively how
intense and pronounce it is.

Professionalism

When producing the graphics for the band it was very important that the graphics are very
proffessional because if they weren't it would not fit the purpose and it will make the whole project
not successful. The target audience is very important to this project because the band is targeted
towards a specific audience so I need to make sure that the graphics are professional. Originality is
really important to professionalism because if the logo and other assets are original and not seen
before it would make the whole brand stand out from the rest.
Looking at other bands I did notice that originality came out from their different designs so I took
this on board and made sure that my logos were up to standard with the most of the top bands.

Final version

The final version of the graphics suprislingly I was very happy on how they turned out.i do think that
looking back over at the final product I could of done better however with the time I had I think that
the product is high quality especially the logo and poster which is the main part of the assets. Not
only that I do think the branding I did was very original I haven't seen a design like this so I overall I
am very happy with the final version for the assets especially. With the tools I had in Photoshop I
tried to make use of the tools but some tools I coudlnt use because I had no experience using them
so I used the only tools I knew which could of made it less attractive if I only used certain tools but I
didnt have enough time to learn more tools which could of benefitted my assets.

Development

The development of the project ran quite smoothly when creating the graphics and also the
storyboards. The storyboards that I created were my original design which made it much easier for
me as I had already had a plan. This made it easy for me to work on Photoshop because I had
something to work off and it made it less time consuming. There was no diffculties with the software
so that didnt disrupt the

Sources of information

Self evaluation

Personally I think I did a fairly good job creating all the graphics because with the amount of time I
had I stuck to the brief and made sure that the graphics were up to a high standard and targeted
towards the target audience. Before creating my graphics I think that.

Documentation

With this course it isnt all creating graphics most of the course is documentation so I needed to
make sure anything I create I need to document it and this is what I did. I created a diary for my
graphics so when I used a tool I documented it using pictures and screenshots. The storyboards
consisted of creating a front cover, back cover, logo and tour poster and these were out drafts that
we had to create and I think it came out the way that it should have compared my Photoshop file.
The only other documentation we had to keep is a digital diary to show the whole process that we
have completed every day that shows what we created in-between those sessions and this was
basically made to be a tutorial so that someone who sees my graphic will be able to create it off of
my diary, this also helped me keep to schedule the only other documentation was some research
and a proposal that we did to introduce into the unit. Also the other documentation is this
evaluation.

Production process
Pre production, planning

The pre production and planning was very vital to the unit because I needed to do a lot of research
so I can get a good idea of what branding I will have for my band. During the planning process I got
some concepts of design ideas and then once the ideas became my own I began to storyboard them
for the client. After this I started to create them in Photoshop and the reason why I sketched them
out in the first place was to get an idea of what the final product will look like. The storyboards that I
created were my original design which made it much easier for me as I had already had a plan. This
made it easy for me to work on Photoshop because I had something to work off and it made it less
time consuming.

I used mainly google and other band websites like oasis to get inspirations for my designs before
creating my own original graphics.

Production time management and project management

When designing and creating my graphics for my band I made sure that my workflow was good and
made sure that I wasn't behind in work. I managed my time by making sure I finished all my work off
before the end of the lesson or if not I spend more time doing work in my free lessons. When doing
my work I didnt want to rush it and get a lower grade so I decided to spend more time on my
graphics to make them look more professional because I knew if I rushed my graphics it wouldnt
turn out to be a high quality graphic. On the last week of the deadline I was ill and had the week off
from college which lead to me falling behind on some work. So to make sure I worked to the
deadline I worked from home and made sure that the work was submitted to the deadline. The
teacher gave us deadlines for each lesson to set and if we didn't finish it we will do it for homework
which helped making sure that we met our deadlines. Also I created a timeline in Visio which shows
different sections of tasked which needs to be completed. I looked at this at the start of every lesson
to see what part of work I should be doing. Originally the client gave me a deadline for this
assignment when I was given the new brief. With that I made an ILP and a Gantt chart. The ILP is
something a use on a regular basis as it allows me to see what I am doing every lesson and when
things need to be completed by. There is also a section where you can add a session review and this
shows progress made and it allows me to keep track of where I am up too. Also if any changes are
made to the deadline or anything other I can change it easily on the ILP.

Monitoring work

Technical competence

When creating my graphics in Photoshop I was already familiar with the program so I knew the
basics of what each function of different tools were so I was quite happy creating my graphics in
Photoshop. When I first started to create my graphics I had problems with the software when trying
to add different layers. However I found a solution to it and carried on creating the graphics. The
software I used mostly was Photoshop however I got my text from a website called "Dafont" this
website is very popular to use in Photoshop and allows you to download different types of fonts. I
previously used this website in another assignment so I knew how to download the fonts. Also I used
Photoshop in a different assignment but I wasnt pleased with the outcome of the graphics because I
felt like I didnt spend enough time on it. So I made sure on this assignment I took my time and
worked with different tools. One tool in Photoshop which is called "Styles" This allowed me to have
different effects on the text which I used on every text on my banner and my logo. throughout
creating my graphics I have gained a lot of Photoshop skills which I am happy to have because I know
I will be using these tools for a long time. Before creating the graphics I had a Photoshop booklet
which showed how to use each tool and this helped me create them.

Creative ability

When creating the graphics I had to ensure that the graphics sizes were correct especially the CD
cover because when printed out it needed to fit the normal standard size CD cover. I believe it was
171mm x 133mm x 11mm. Im not entirely sure if this is correct but I had to divide this up for the
front, back and spine. I set this up in measurement of mm in Photoshop. For the poster, it was
simple I had to make an A3 poster. In Photoshop there is already a dimension set for this. I had to set
the resolution up for the most part I had the resolution at 96 as this worked really well with most of
the graphics because I didnt lose and image quality.

For size something I could have done would be to make the front, back and spine out of one
workspace. I decided not to do this as I believe it would be even more difficult to size as I would have
to use the ruler one Photoshop and Im not familiar with that tool. Further, I believe it would be
harder to cut away, whereas if the graphic was on its own on just a plain sheet of paper it would be a
lot easier to cut up.

Own work and teamwork

When doing this unit it was very important that the final product was my own original work and that
I didnt get anyone else to do it for me. However I did know that guidance off my peers will really
help me to decide what sort of path I should go and I think that constructive critism from others will
really benefit my project. While doing this assignment we had some group discussion's on a few
things throughout making the graphics. In the class I'm the one who is fairly use to using Photoshop
so if anybody needed help doing something in Photoshop I would help them by showing what they
have to do. Also we had a peer to peer discussion on how to improve the graphics we made so it
would benefit all the class if we reviewed the graphics from a user perspective. My peer said that my
graphics were "too bland" so I took the constructive critisim and added some colours to my banner
and some images and my peer reviewed it again and he thought it looked much better

Finished product

Compared with original intentions

Looking at my storyboards for my original intentions I do think that the final product does reflect on
my original plans but I have done some minor changes that come into when designing in Photoshop.
One change is the poster because the layout in the storyboard is quite different to the final design
and the reason why this is because the font I used in photoshop didnt look right so I changed it to
something else then changed the layout.

The logo was suprisingly the same I stuck to my original intention of having a target and then the
text over the top and the reason why I did this is because I think that it looks really clean and
proffesional but also stands out so it will be a eye catch for people.

Appropiate for audiences

When creating the original designs, I had to make sure that they fit within the audience ages. This
could be that the images and assets do not have any inappropriate content if my target audience is
younger than 18 however my band is over 18 but I do think it isnt a good idea to put risky content
which will be published to the public to view so I have made sure any assets are not going to offend
anyone.

Identifying a target audience of consumers is among the most crucial elements for a new business
operator to consider. Without knowing your target market, or whether an audience even exists, you
can't realistically expect your business venture to survive. Business owners who learn how to identify
target audiences of consumers stand a better chance of convincing lenders to support them.
Learning to distinguish between different audiences makes it easier to determine what segments of
consumers truly support your business and whether they are going to become more than one-
purchase customers.

Technical qualities

With Photoshop and the amount of tools it has completing the project and assets were quite easy
however I did have some time with illness so it was a struggle handing in everything. Also they
werent were any technical problems throughout the project with the software which was very
pleasing. This doesnt mean everything went according to plan though. Technically all the tools on
Photoshop worked how I planned them to, and I was happy with the results Photoshop. I just wish I
changed some things about the designs before going on to producing them.

Overall though with all the tools I used there were no problems on Photoshop which made creating
the graphics a whole lot easier. However, there were some days where I couldnt get anything right
when creating the graphics. Luckily this wasnt too much of a problem as I managed to get away with
leaving it and completing it another day.

I have produced a checklist and a diary which keeps track of how I created my graphics with that it
accompanies the text with pictures showing in detail how I did everything. The checklist kept every
single tool I used in this project so I if I ever needed to look back to find out how to do something the
checklist is a great way of doing so.

Aethetical qualities

The aesthetics for these graphics were really hard to come up with because I didnt know what sort
of style I should do the brand however I did some research meaning designing and producing the
graphics was easy as all I had to do was manipulate previous graphics and better them as its a band.

When it came to including some graphics into the cd cover poster. For some areas I managed to get
some photorealistic images but this was a rare occasion as using these images was like stealing
something from another band. For the majority of the images I added a filter to them on Photoshop.
There were better ways to make the image look realistic but I needed something quicker and more
efficient I had a lot of graphics to produce in such a small amount of time. I added a filter called
poster edges and messed around with the sliders to get my look. The filter changed normal looking
images to a more cartoon like, animated whilst still looking real.

Content and style

The content and style was very important to this assignment because I was creating graphics that
need to appeal to the audience so therefore the content and style is important. For the poster the
content showed the bands logo and tour dates clearly and the style throughout of this was themed
on the CD cover as well. The CD cover showed the logo and then on the back the different song
names and also a barcode and copyright claim. I made sure I kept to the guidelines for making the
CD.

Colour was really important to my designs because I wanted to make it stand out from the other CD
covers so the colour shceme was blue and green which is a vibrant colour.

Looking at the evaluation for this unit I think that I could everything that was on the
assignment brief so I did meet the guidelines and also I did provide some illustrations
in the evaluation and explained how I felt the assignment went well. There is many
headings that I Included which wasnt on the brief and I did this because I felt it will
make the evaluation more appealing because it was my own heading. The main
heading which I wanted to make sure I cover was the target audience because I feel
for this assignment the target audience is very important as well as the client.

Discussion with client

Here is a client meeting which we did before we started the assignment and the reason why
we did this is that it helps define what the client wants from the assignment. The client
wants to have an a3 poster up to a high standard and use the logo, which will be
incorporated into it. For this assignment I made sure I met the requirements which were set
by the client. I created a CD cover logo and poster, which was up to a high standard the
client. I also made sure the documentation was high quality to match the assets. The
assignment brief states that the poster should be the correct size, which is a3, and I made
sure I did this by setting the size in Photoshop to the default a3 size.

Preproduction phases
Below are the scans of the 3 assets which are the logo poster and cd cover. They are all
taken on a camera then imported into my proposal. I made sure that the images were high
quality so that the client can see the sketch properly.

LOGO

CD COVER

Above is the proposal for the assignment 54 assignment 2 and it covers all the different
ranges for the client and I talk about the designs I made on Photoshop and sketch. Part of
the assignment was to make sure that the graphics were the correct size and I did this.
A3 poster

Thumbnail sketching

For my poster I did use thumbnail sketching because I knew that the poster will be quite big so therefore if I
sketched the poster design I could easily rub out any mistakes I did. I made sure that the sketching was quite
define so I could go over the sketch to create the actual drawing. I also marked what parts of the drawing
should be colored in so I knew the different sections of the drawing needed to be done. I designed a
background which I got the idea from a battlefield which I sketched so I got the idea before I finalized it.

I also drew the characters which will be featured in the game for my poster and I used the sketching to do the
outline of the character.

Visual Style

The visual style of the poster is quite full of colors because the poster is to catch the eye of the audience so
therefore I wanted it to be very vibrant with colors and to make it look professional as well. A relative
measure of image intensity could be how bright (mean pixel intensity) the image appears compared
to another image. Brightness is the visual perception of reflected light. Increased brightness refers to
an image's increased luminance. I want my poster to have a lot of intensity to make it stand out from
all the rest of the other posters because I want mine to be the center of attention. The colours used
in the poster are red, green and black. I think these colours work well with the poster because the
contrast between these colours are quite similar so therefore I think that the poster will look
professional if the colours are matching and look suitable.

Typography

For my a3 poster I used typography because text is a big part in the selling point of the game and I
think that having it in the poster is very important because big text and a bold font stands out to the
audience rather than any other text which may be hard to read from a distance.
I used a big font in the poster because I think it will catch someones eye and the purpose of this is to
attract them. I made sure that the font and size was very suitable for the poster.

Production phases

On Assignment 2 there is no diary however there is a diary in assignment 3 in

which I used after this assignment. For this assignment, we had to create a
number or assets including a logo to meet the assignment brief.
Diary for graphics

Aim For this lesson, the aim is to create my logo and Poster. I will be creating all of the
assets in Photoshop and documenting in this diary providing screenshots.

Creating my logo
Opened Photoshop and then created the document and made sure size of the canvas was
correct.

Inserted the background for the logo which is the target

After this I added a text which says the pixels and changed the colour to light blue

Then I added another layer behind it to create a 3D look

Final design of logo

Learnt - todays lesson I created my logo and I am very happy with how it turned out. Also I
think that the logo looks very professional.

AIM- todays lesson will be starting to create my poster to hand out to people. I need to
make sure the poster is eyecatching so it will attract the crowd.
Firstly created my poster size which is A3
Added my logo at the top of the poster and made sure I centered it.

After this I added the text on Tour and also created another layer which made it look 3D

After this I added the dates of the tour at the bottom

The added an image of the band and did the same as the text I added another layer

Final design

Learnt - Today I created my poster and I made sure the poster was high quality and the
correct size.

Aim aim of todays lesson is to create my CD Cover to a high standard

Firstly created the canvas size.
Added the logo and other images to cd cover

After this I added in disclaimer for copyright

Created song list

Evidence of folder files

Looking at the diary you can see the different ways I created the logo to meet the briefs
requirement. For example using the various tools that Photoshop use.
To meet the brief the final product has to be what the client has asked so therefore I
ensured that the logo was meeting the brief. This was the same with the poster. I ensure I
did this because the client wanted a clean and professional looking assets and I think I did
do that.
Post production

After the production we talked about the legal and ethical In which I need to ensure that I
dont produce anything that will offend the client..
Copyright law originated in the United Kingdom from a concept of common law; the Statute of Anne
1709. It became statutory with the passing of the Copyright Act 1911. The current act is the
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The laws were implemented to make sure people who
created some kind of work and prevent people from stealing your work to benefit themselves.

Before this law was an act people could copy someones work and claim that the work was from
them. This was a big problem to companys so they decided to have this act mainly on the web due
to it is open to the world and it is easier to steal work from the web such as images, videos and
music. These assets are included in my product so this is why I need to consider where I get my
assets from. The copyright law protects the IT industry because mainly copyrighting takes place on
the web.

Assets

Videos are popular target for copyright. Videos online such as YouTube are sometimes copyrighted
so no one can use their video for beneficial purposes. The person who creates a video (the
creator), such as somebody who records the video, will generally be the owner of the original
copyright. However, if it was created as part of the creators job, the employer will generally own the
copyright. Videos on the internet may have the copyrighted symbol in front of the image to prevent
anyone using it however some videos dont. The copyright symbol does not have to be present for
copyright to exist, so just because there is no name or copyright symbol associated with a photo or
video does not mean the copyright has expired. If you want to gain permission to use the video you
will need to contact the owner who is the creator of the video and sort an agreement. Most of the
time the agreement is through paying for the video however you may not have to pay. They might
ask you to instead of gaining full copyright of the video you could just get permission to use it. This is
the same with other assets such as images

Software can be a copyright problem too. If you buy a software package legally which allows you to
use the software for yourself this means that you do not own that software. The software company
allows you to use it but only for yourself so you cannot claim the product to be yours or illegally
transfer the software to someone else. Also some websites offer instructions on softwares which
are required to be bought. These websites provide crack codes to allow users all over the world to
use the software for free and this is illegal. Each software usually contains a license to that individual
computer. If the software is on a disk therefore it can only be used for one computer machine.
However, people burn the software onto another disk and give the software to another person. This
is illegal and would need to buy another license in order to use it again. This law is the same with
schools where each computer must have a different license.

In order I do not break any laws or offend anyone I need to make sure I do not get all my images
from a copyrighted source and I do not copy anyones work without permission. If I want an image
or video I need to contact the owner and ask them for permission before using it in my product.

Ethical
When creating a multimedia product you need to ensure that you make the assets included in the
product suitable for the target audience. For example if the target audience were kids you will need
to ensure that anything you put in the product that wont offend the users. Also this protects such as
racist comments which will offend people and affect the product. This will always be breaking the
law and could cause a lot of problems. People may be most likely to break the law on the internet
because people may think that theyre anonymous. But you can be tracked and found so everything
needs to be considered before publishing to the world. There is rules that can help you to avoid is.

- You arent allowed to use a picture, video or sound unless the person who has full control of
the assets give you permission to use them.
- You cant make a written statement of someone which could offend them and any abusive
language which could affect their reputation.
- You arent allowed to use anyones piece of work without permission (copyright law)
- You have to be careful that you dont offend someone this goes by
- Race
- Gender (female and male)
- Sexuality (homosexual and heterosexual)
- Disability
- Nationality
- Class ( higher class or lower class)
- Age ( adults and children)

Race Relations Act 1976

The race relations act is a legislation that makes sure we respect that discrimination on any racial
grounds is wrong.

The effect this has on radio and television:

They need to make sure that they don't discriminate against any type of race or religion. Radio needs
to be very careful about the people they hire as most programs will be live and if any racial
accusations are caused they have no way of stopping it. Television has been recently making
television shows which have a person of dark skin tone as the main character which shows a fairer
approach to this law. An example of this is BBC three's teenage program 'Some Girls' which has a
black main girl character and one of her friends is a Sikh.

Privacy Law

Privacy Law is a law which deals with the use of peoples personal information and making sure they
aren't intruded upon. These laws make sure people can't have their information wrongly used
without permission.

The effect this has on radio:

This means that they can't tell the listeners peoples full names or any private details they don't want
revealed. For example, if a viewer calls in but they don't want their name to be revealed then they
can't say it.
The effect this has on television:

This is also basically the same as radio, they can't use peoples full names without their consent. This
also means that if they take footage of someone they need to get that persons permission before
they air it on television.

Copyright and Intellectual Property Law

The Copyright law protects things that are owned by a certain person. This makes sure that no one
else can take credit for someones work or you can't use something without getting permission first.

The effect this has on radio:

They can't play certain music without getting permission from the people that created it.

The effect this has on television:

They can't play music or show clips without getting permission from the people that created it.

Libel Law

The Libel law is a law which states that someone can't give out false information about someone
that could potentially cause them harm. Such as writing a quote that someone said when they didn't
actually say that, or portraying someone in a negative way when that wasn't what happened.

On my product I made sure that I did not breach any of the above. I made sure that the product was
suitable for anyone for example different races and made sure any content on my product wouldnt
offend anyone. I did this by not using images and any video content that are copyrighted so I will not
break any laws. Also not using anyones work this includes any assets or design of the product.
Another way I did not break any ethical rules is that I made sure that the text in my product didnt
have any abusive language and made sure it is suitable for my target audience.

Monitor progress
There is also an ILP, which I used throughout this assignment and I made sure I used my
time wisely to meet the deadline and I did this as you can see.

Monitoring our progress through the units are very important because as we are working on
the assignment we can see what we did the previous lesson on the ILP which helps us keep
track and monitor out work. This helps the assignment a lot because we can also see when
the deadlines are.
