The major product of T.C.C is Caustic Soda, produced by
the electrolysis of brine solution (solution of NaCl). Chlorine and Hydrogen are produced as the biproducts during the electrolysis, along with the major product NaOH.
PROCESS
The brine solution is prepared at a concentration of
320g/ltr in water in the saturator. Salt impurities in the solution is purified in the purifier by adding chemicals and the impurities are precipitated out. From here solution is brought into the brine clarifier where other impurities are removed as sludge. The brine solution is then send into the filters to achieve 100% purity. From the filters we get pure brine solution.
Brine solution from the filters are taken to the electrolysis
plant, where it is electrolyzed. Membrane cell electrolysis technology is used such that 32% of caustic soda solution is obtained. This is send to Continuous Caustic Fusion (C.C.F) plant to dehydrate the caustic soda and produce solid caustic soda flakes.
Chlorine produced is used for commercial purposes and
also for producing Hydrochloric acid. In the acid plant HCl is produced from Hydrogen and Chlorine, heated at high temperatures, water is sprayed to produce HCl. The remaining Chorine is liquefied, stored and used for other purposes.
