Lesson Notes:

Lesson #1
Extension Activity
This lesson introduces the concept of lifelong learning. Participants should spend some
time visiting the following sites that will further their understanding of Internet skills and
issues:
EdWeb-Andy Carvin/WWWEDU
http://edweb.gsn.org/
21st Century Teachers Network
http://www.21ct.org/
Online Internet Institute
http://www.oii.org

Lesson #2
Extension Activity
This lesson deals with the ever-changing role of the teacher. Modeling higher level
critical thinking skills in order to teach students how to retrieve, store, and manipulate
information gathered over the Internet has become a very important task. Encourage
participants to spend time at various links within the "Reinventing Schools: The
Technology is Now" web site found in this lesson to further understand the vast potential
for access to education resources over the Internet.

Lesson #3
Extension Activity
This lesson contains more engaged learning activities over the Internet, including Web
Quest and Think Quest sites. Teachers should begin to think about incorporating some of
these activities into specific units in their curriculum.

Lesson #4
Extension Activity
This lesson suggests that participants join an educational listserv. Participants should join
about three or four listservs and evaluate them. (Have them visit:
http://mtn.merit.edu/resources/listserv/listservs_and_newsgroups_for_educators.html) We recommend this be
mini-workshop so participants receive support with the steps if it is required. At the end
of this mini-workshop the participants assignment is to monitor the activity on these
listservs and evaluate which ones they like the best. When you meet again for your next
mini-workshop, you can discuss the listservs that the participants liked. Prompt the
participants to explain why they believe the listservs will be useful to them. You will also
want to walk them through how to sign off from any listservs.

Note: Here are some web-based email packages participants can use if they do not have
an email account that they can use both at home and at school:
