Introduction of concept
Group Metering System is based on a powerful multiprocessor architecture enabling metrology and
communication functions.GMS is ready solution to enhance the HVDS systems functional efficiency .GMS
can be integrated with HVDS transformer for monitoring individual consumers electrical energy
consumption where majority of consumers are in cluster. One IGMS box is capable to record energy
consumption of maximum of 10 consumers.

GMS system comprises of:

1. Energy Meters - DIN rail type mounting 240Volts, 5-30Amp, Class 1.0, Single phase, Whole
Current, Energy meters confirming to IS: 13779 which are compatible to measure Energy
consumption and Demand (kW & kVA). Maximum 10 meters can be placed in a single system.

2. Data concentrator unit: This unit collects data from all individual meters (meter modules) on
a regular interval with wired serial communication. This communicates with remote energy display
unit (REDU) via RF technology (in ISM band).

3. Audit Meter: (optional) this is for energy auditing purpose and will measure HVDS Tr. Load.

4. RF Modem:RF modem enables communication between DCU and REDU & DCU and HHT (Hand
held device) when meter reading is done. This works on ISM band sub G-Hz frequency with point to
point RF communication technology.

5. REDU (Remote Meter Display Unit):This unit will be installed at consumer premises and
will have only displays of energy consumption and demand .This unit have RF chip and will
communicate with DCU through RF modem connected in main box to fetch the requireddisplay
information.
Data of all meters and of any one of selected meter can be downloaded through HHT using RF
technology.

b. Billing data

At billing date /time(Default last day of every month at 24:00hrs meter stores following details as billing
data:

Billing date and Time

Cumulative Active Energy
Cumulative TOD Energy
Maximum demand (KW)
Average Power Factor
Power on hours

Meter has the provision to store last 6 months billing data. All these data is accessible for
reading, recording by downloading through HHT (Hand Held Unit) on RF communication.

c. MD registration

The meter continuously monitors the demand (KW) and update the Maximum Demand for the month. The MD
will reset automatically at predefined Date & Time (Default last day of every month at 24:00hrs).

Meter stores MD in every 30 min. period along with date & time. At the end of every 30 min, new MD will be
computed & compared with previous MD and store whichever is higher and the same will be displayed. For MD
computation separate counter is used rather by difference of initial and final energy counter.
d. TOD Metering
Meter is capable of doing TOD metering for KWH, and MD in KW with 6 time zones (programmable on site
through CMRI).Two seasons summer and winter are configured in meter. Following are the default T&D time
zone.

e. Midnight Energy Stamp

Last 65 daysmidnight Kwh energy stamps are stored in meter.

f. Display
Following parameters will be displayed for 10 sec in auto mode.

1. LCD Check
2. Cumulative Kwh
3. MD(KW)
4. Date
5. Real Time
6. Instantaneous Voltage
7. Instantaneous Current

g. LED
Two LEDs are provided on meter front

a. CAL LED: - For Calibration Pulse indication.

b. Phase LED :- If Phase and Neutral are present then it will glow, and If Meter is running at Neutral miss
then it will not glow
h. Tamper

1. TOP Cover open: - If meter top cover is opened then meter detect top cover open tamper with in
1sec & logged it.
2. Battery low: - If battery voltage is below 1.9V than meter detect it as battery low tamper & logged
it.
3. Over current tamper: -if load current is greater than 120%of Imax then over current tamper is
logged.
4. Low Voltage:- Event shall be logged in memory along with Occurrence and restoration event data.
Threshold should be below 180Volts.
5. Power on-off event: - Power on-off event will be logged in meter.
6. Low Power factor:-When Power factor is below then defined threshold limit then low power factor
event is logged.

Last 20 event of each type is stored in meter.

i. Load Survey

Last 65 days load survey for following parameters with 30 minute survey integration period is stored in
meter:

1. Voltage
2. Current
3. Demand(KW)
4. Power factor
