Context: During my fall term 2016 at Portland Community College I took

sheltered instruction for English Language Learners. In the summer of 2014 I

took introduction to childrens literature. In both of these classes I learned
instructional methods for supporting specific demographics of students. One
of the things I think is most crucial to the profession of education is the
ability to evaluate yourself objectively to ensure that your practices are
effective. I thought that including this reflection on the lesson plan that I
included in the Using Research section of this portfolio showed my dedication
to mindfully analyzing my approaches to instruction. I included my paper on
Maurice Sendak to show my ability to analyze the literature that my students
could potentially be reading, depending on the age group I work with.

Connection: I think that the lesson plan reflection was effective, because it
demonstrated my educational practice focused on English Language
Learners. One of my goals as an educator is to never give up the
commitment of ensuring that I am realistic about my effectiveness as an
educator. Although I will not always complete a written reflection on my
lesson plans I am dedicated to always reflecting on my instructional
practices.

Contemplation: Completing this reflection on this lesson plan showed me

methods in which to implement objective and effective reflection. I think it is
always important to consider if the individual activities within the lesson are
beneficial to the students. Its also important for me to consider if instruction
is more student centered or teacher centered. Above all I will always be
welcome to considering ways to make instruction more beneficial for
students, especially if it requires me to learn new skills.
