‘The Rev. David Almleaf , Pastor ~ May 2017
ee
Dear Members and Friends,
I wish to thank all who helped make our Holy Week and Easter activities inspirational through setting
things up, assisting in worship services, providing special music and keeping things on track and looking nice
On April 30" Samara Smith will be installed as our newest deacon, We thank her for the time and
effort she has put into this while attending college at time, Samara is currently serving in our
Christian Education program and on the In-Reach Committee.
‘Two special events in May are the Ie Cream Social and our participation in the city wide garage sale.
On Sunday May 7", the In-Reach Committee is hos
's on Sunday" following worship. The Dream Cate
ing the Ice Cream Social other wise known as
ers will provide entertainment
“Sune:
On Friday May 19" and Saturday May 20" our youth group will host a garage sale at the church all
day, both days, ‘Thank you for your donations
All month long we will be getting used to the new hymnal known as Evangelical Lutheran Worship or
the ELW for short, It replaces the Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW) and With One Voice (WOV). ‘The
service and music are pretty much the same in the setting we will start with, but we will have to get used to
finding the pages that we need,
New things are often annoying for Lutherans, yet we somehow eventually get used to them. Be sure to
attend ofien so it will be easier later.
Resurrection Blessings,
hate Liovil aloe

Because of your generosity, the Youth Group
made $195. We are indeed blessed. THANK

‘This month's installment will be shorter than usual because the only color for the
Sunday's in May this year is white.
Easter is a season in the chureh year that lasts for seven Sundays. Easter Sunday
elf is the color gold and that is the only week of gold as there is no other day like the
Festival of the Resurrection.
There are seven weeks of Easter because the signature event of the Christian faith
calls for a week of weeks to highlight and celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.
One other thing that is unique to the weeks of Faster is that there is no old
testament lessons as we normally have. The psalm of course is from the old testament but
the first reading which is also usually from the old testament is from Acts during the seven’
weeks of Easter. Acts is the story of the Holy Spirit at work in the early days of
Christianity following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension and opens our hearts and minds to
the role of the Holy Spirit in the church today.
