The Rev. David Almleaf, Pastor ~ February 2018
|S ec aR
Dear Members and Friends,
T'm not a fan of winter but I am a fan of February. I like the fact that if it has to be a winter
month, it’s the shortest month of all.
Many like February because of Valentine’s Day falling right in the center of it. Because of this we see
a lot of red in February and it adds a little color to an otherwise bleak seasor
He I particularly like February because the season of Lent often begins in it and
an this season takes my mind off of the snow and my attention becomes focused on the
love of God.
LENT BEGINS
‘This year Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday are the same day. On this day we begin our
journey to the cross and resurrection of our Lord.
God loves us so much that Jesus died for us in order to spare us from the consequences of our
sin. Both Ash Wednesday services will include ashes. The noon service is spoken and the 7:00 p.m,
service will include the sung liturgy and choir.
look forward to seeing renewed participation throughout Lent. Congregations that are deeply
rooted in worship have good soil for overall renewal.

We Need Your Help!
‘The following are the names we were
given who are serving in the military.
Our Inreach committee has been very
faithful in sending letters and cards to
them during the holidays but this year
several of them came back due to wrong
addresses.
Please look over the list, if any of these
service men or women are in your family,
or you know them, and they have been
discharged or are stationed somewhere
else, please let me know so I can make
the necessary changes.
Thanks, Bonnie

Grace Lutheran,
Paul and I want to express our gratitude for
all the prayers, gifts, hugs, and kindness since
we took baby Blake into our home this past
September. Our congregation has seen many
foster kids come and go over the years as we
have fostered around 25 children in the past 15
years. You've always supported us without
questioning, welcoming them like they were our
own,
Blake recently moved to anew home, a move
initiated by us as we considered his well-being
for the future. It has been an emotional time
‘and your love, support, and prayers are a

THANKS
HEART
Bonnie & Grace Family Members,
‘This is a BIG THANK YOU & hug from
Charlotte! Mom so appreciated the Shut-in basket
she received with all the goodies. ‘The church has
been a blessing for her as she transitioned to
Assisted Living a year ago. So many of you call,
send cards, visit & I know you keep her in your
prayers. She truly enjoys the Pastor’s visits even
when they may get interrupted. Iam so glad she
gets out to show him around the home. Itis lovely
and though not like her own, I think the interaction
has been good for her. We were blessed with her
at home with us a couple of different times and to
Grace on Christmas Eve morning, The cold puta
damper on our activities but somehow God has
way of slowing us down and letting us know what is,
important: sharing our time together.
Please share her gratitude with all her church
family. She misses you all and being a part of so
many activities. Her battery is wearing down and
she gets tired even more easily these days. She
wants to do more, but I remind her to count our
many blessings & just recount so many good
shared memories.
We'll see you in the Spring! May God Bless you
all! Mom and I wish you a healthy and happy
2018.
Blessings,

Thank you, Neighbor
Dear Neighbor,
If you've ever heard our brass band perform, you've seen how much we believe in the power of working
together, each playing an important part to create a greater good.
That's why I’m so inspired by your wonderful gift of $50.00.
You are playing a big part in making our community a better place - helping children, hardworking
neighbors, veterans, seniors, anyone here who needs a little help and something to believe in.
Right now, your gift is easing someone’s pain, transforming someone's life and answering someone's
prayers.
Thank you for all you’ve shared, doing more good for more people in more ways.
With warm wishes and gratitude, Lieutenant Mark Devanney, Corps Administrator
