THIRTEEN REASONS WHY

SUICIDE

How many times have we felt depressed? Depression, among other reasons, can lead us to think in the

easy way: The suicide. An act of courage or cowardice? Is possible that the decision consists in that

someone offers you helping, perhaps you only need emotional support.

According to the World Health Organization, every year approximately one million people commit

suicide, what it means a death each 40 seconds at the global level. Suicide is one of the three most

frequent causes of death in people 15 to 35 years old. The figures are alarming and not including suicide

attempts that occur every 3 seconds worldwide. Suicide in some cases is considered an act of cowardice,

in others an act of courage. But, who deserves to be called suicide brave or cowardly? The ethical

dilemma arises from this premise.

Philosophers such as Goethe claim that it is an act of cowardice because is more difficult to deal with the

problems of life that decide to deprive themselves of the right to live it. On the other hand, Voltaire said

that if life has no sense, the best option is suicide.
