Reflection Part of the Activity

We chose this unit topic to teach matching, to teach grouping, to introduce animals which are
different from each other in terms of flying, living on land and aquatic and to teach different
animals features. We also consider that children like learning about animals, animating them,
playing games about animals. Our topic is good at drawing children attention. We prepared
activities so that children are active in the process.

When we were planning our unit and lesson plans, we spent most of our time thinking about
select strategies, technology, media, and materials. This part is new for us since we know
other parts of ASSURE model from our early activities, classes and our experiences at
kindergarten but this part we learned from this course. We decided our topic, we prepared
activities but selecting strategies, technology and media was difficult for us. We couldnt
integrated our activity plans at first but then we did brainstorming for an hour and then we
could able to select our strategies, technology and media. After doing that we didnt have any
difficulties for other parts. Also, the rationale behind in the time allocation for these activities
is childrens level of development and their characteristics. We considered their age and other
qualities while spending time for them. Also, we gave time by considering how much time a
usual early childhood activity takes. Therefore, we spend time by considering the difficulty of
the activity, time requiring for preparation and an ideal time requiring for the topic.

We determined age groups at first, our activity is prepared for 48-60 month old children.
When we preparing activity we consider important their readiness level, their abilities,
interests and needs. While were determining objectives, we paid attention to their age group
characteristics and according to do we wrote our objectives. We did brainstorming to decide
instructional methods, media and materials and we tried to draw children attention through
media and materials. Since we are working with young children and they can lost their
interests easily. For this reason, we focused on children attention level and we tried to prepare
our media and materials so that children can follow the process voluntarily.

Our activities based on Piagets theory which is related to accommodation. During the activity
process, we are giving new information for children. Accommodation involves altering
existing schemas, or ideas, as a result of new information or new experiences. New schemas
may also be developed during this process. Our tools let children to learn new information
and gain new experiences.
For the first week, we made infographic which shows three habitats for our activity. We used
it to introduce animals. Also, we prepared a concept map, in the activity process children
match between land animals and their habitats. For the second week, we uses Blendspace for
flying animal topic. ). In the blendspace, there are PowerPoint, video and pdf related to flying
animals. For the third week, we made presentation by Prezi to children. In this presentation,
there are different animals which are aquatic and their basic features. Also we made a video
by animoto about caretta caretta.

We prepared our activities so that children would be active in the process. Our activities are
child-centered. Thanks to our attractive tools and materials, children participate in the
activities successfully. Except for assessment questions, we prepared worksheets. Through
worksheets, the teacher can evaluate the process correctly. With assessment questions she can
understand the process, she can see objectives are given or not by assessing answers.
Moreover, we prepared a survey which is like animal quiz. At the end of three weeks, with
this survey she can understand children understand or dont understand the topic, she can see
weak and strong part of the activities. According to evaluation, she can prepare her future
activities.
