This research study is made possible by 5 of the Grade-10 students with the help of

their Research Adviser Sir Richard Jake Licayan. The research study is entitled
Novel Utilization of Fermented Corn Silk Formulations and its Subsequent Effects on
the Root and Bud Developments of Oyster Plant (Tradiscantia discolor LHer). The
Researchers used Tradiscantia discolor LHer or also known as oyster plant for the
study. Originally, the researchers used water spinach but later on concluded that
the level of acidity of the different concentrations is too much for the water spinach
to handle. For the fermentation of the corn silk the researchers gathered
approximately about 5oo g of corn silk then 2 litters of distilled after, coconut water
and rice washing. After 3-4 weeks the fermentation is done and ready to be dived
into different concentrations for the study. After the first week of observing and
collecting data the researchers noticed improvements on some of the plant
samples. The plant sample with the highest number of roots is Fermented Corn silk
in Distilled water 12.5% concentration trial 3 with 10 visible roots. After a few
more days the researchers refilled the containers so that the plant samples will
continue to grow/improve. For the second week more improvements were found a
lot of roots are now visible on most of the plant samples and buds are starting to
grow as well. As for the number of roots the highest number of roots is still found on
Fermented Corn silk in Distilled water 12.5% concentration trial 3 with 10 visible
roots. Week 3 shows that 1 of the plant sample died on Fermented Corn Silk in Rice
Washing 50% concentration trial 2. Even though one died the researchers are still
full of hope on the study because the other plant samples were fast improving. On
the last week of the study the researchers found out that leaves were growing on
the centre of the oyster plant. The researchers study on observing and collecting
data is now done and the researchers are now starting their research paper and are
now waiting for their samples to be analysed.
