Problem no. 1
A body of weight 300 N is lying on a rough horizontal plane having a coefficient of friction as 0.3. Find the
magnitude of the force, which can move the body, while acting at an angle of 25° with the horizontal.

Fx=0 Fy=0
f=Pcos(25) N + Psin25 = 300N W=300 N
N = 300N - Psin25
f=uN
f = 0.3(300N - Psin(25)) u=0.3 30°
Equate Fx and Fy to get P

Pcos(25)= 0.3(300N - Psin(25))

P= 87.11701354 N N

Problem No. 2
A body, resting on a rough horizontal plane, required a pull of 180 N inclined at 30 ° to the plane just to move
it. It was found that a push of 220 N inclined at 30 ° to the plane just moved the body. Determine the weight
of the body and the coefficient of friction.

Pull Push
Fx=0 Fy=0 Fx=0 Fy=0
f=180Ncos(30) N + 180sin(30) = W f=220Ncos(30) N - 220sin(30) = W
N = W -180sin(30) N = W + 220sin(30)
f=uN f=uN
f=u(W -180sin(30)) f=u(W + 220sin(30))

Equate Fx and Fy Equate Fx and Fy

180Ncos(30)=u(W -180sin(30)) 220Ncos(30)=u(W + 220sin(30))

180Ncos(30)=[220Ncos(30)/W+220sin(30)][W-180sin(30) u=220Ncos(30)/W+220sin(30)

W= 990 N Substitute this u to the Pull equation to get W

Subtitute W to get u value

180Ncos(30)=u(990 -180sin(30))

u = 0.1732050808
