COURSE CONTENT:
MUSIC PERFORMANCE FUNDAMENTALS
* Posture
* Breathing
MUSIC LITERATURE AND HISTORY
* Various styles ranging from classical to pop to jazz
* Performing (Individual and Group) and listening
* Background information on the composers and pieces
MUSIC THEORY AND FUNDAMENTALS
* Terminology and symbols
* Intervals and chords (High School)
* Scales Notating and performing (Percussionist will learn and

NOTATION
* Written notation of scales and simple melodies
* Ear training (If time allows)
Students will learn to identify intervals and major and minor

CRITIQUE
* Students will learn the process of critique

GRADING:
PARTICIPATION PERFORMING AND CONTRIBUTING IN
CLASS, ALSO PARTICIPATION AT FESTIVALS AND OTHER
PERFORMANCES
Students will be required to participate daily and for the
duration of the class period. They will be called upon to
perform individually or in a small group on a frequent basis.
If a student is ill and cannot play, they will be required to read a
music article and complete a summary of the article, which
must be turned in before the next days class period.
