INT. MATRONS ROOM EVENING

Little Emily sitting in front of the matron scratching her finger

nails on the armchair without looking up

MATRON
We wont be able to find you
a mum and dad if you are
angry all the time. Nobody
wants to keep angry children
darling. Also, make friends
with someone. Atleast your
roommate.

Emily suddenly stops and looks up trying to say something

MATRON
I dont want to hear any more
complaints.
INT. EMILYS ROOM NIGHT

INT.EMILYS ROOM MORNING

Teenage Mia (15 years) throwing and breaking stuff at Emily and
Emily watching her in cold fury.

MIA
How much more do you want to
embarrass me?? Its already
hell living with a total
psycho like you. First you
hated your mother. Then you
had a revelation that she is
a great writer. Based on
what??? That stupid bracelet
of yours!!!

EMILY
Mia, I told you already that
I must let her know that I
understand.

MIA
Are you even listening to
yourself?? So, what do you
think? Your imaginary mother
is going to come to listen
your presentation about
her?? Do you have the
slightest idea how nuts you
sound? I cant wait to move
out of here. AWAY FROM YOU!

Mia storms out of the room leaving behind the cold and
indifferent Emily.

the footsteps of the
Orphanage. She kisses the

BACK OF THE CLASS

Alan is goofing with his friends. He throws a paper rocket at

the girls and it falls on Mia. Mia sneak a peek at him.

ALAN
Thats the most ridiculous
story I have ever heard. If
the mother loves her child
she is not going to leave her
no matter what. Unlike you,
I have one so I can tell.
Alan gives a high five to his friends and starts laughing. Mia
stops smiling and looks at Alan confused and annoyed.

TEACHER
Thats enough Alan

Emily looks wounded and finally she looks at Mia and Mia gives
her a smirk. Emily storms out of the class.

INT. BEDROOM- NIGHT

Emily is rolling the bracelet between her fingers and pacing

around the room.

VO (Alan)

child she is not going to

Emily grabs her hair, slides down the floor and starts rocking.
She starts mumbling and humming to herself. Suddenly she stands
up goes to the computer and start searching.

Mia walks into the room. She looks sympathetic towards Emily.
She stands beside Emily for a while thinking something. Then
slowly puts her hand on Emilys shoulder and softly caress her.

Emily looks up at MIA. Emily looks completely vulnerable and

then she turns back to the Computer.

MIA (looking at the Screen)

Who are these people?

EMILY

MIA
Okay. Are you doing
another presentation?

EMILY
Im trying to find her
Mia turns sour.
MIA

EMILY
Im sure she looks like me.

EMILY

MATRON

EMILY
No

Matron stops writing and looks at Emily impassively. Emily

squirms in the chair.
MATRON
Well That means either you
dont have the talent for it
or you are not ready for it.
In either case, we must find
an alternative. Mia has
started working in a
supermarket and she says
there is another vacancy in
there. She also has a flat
with an extra bedroom. Not
that I imagine shed want to
share it with you. However,
I have asked her to consider
it.

Emily nods her head

The woman is softly caressing the cheek of the girl.

MRS. LINCOLN
Darling, whats it on your

ELENA
Its nothing mama. I just
saw it this morning.

The mother suddenly starts examining the hands and neck of the
girl.

ELENA
Mom!! Im ok!!

MRS. LINCOLN
Youre not okay. Baby you
will ruin your beautiful
skin if you dont
take care of it. Lets go
look for some moisturizers.

Emily starts following them with longing and curiosity

and both walk towards Emily to stand nearby her stand.

MRS. LINCOLN
I dont want you to get
associated with these
people. Be friends with
those who are worth having

focus on what you want to do

straightens up.

MIA

if I want to go.
MRS. LINCOLN
Dont be stupid! Travelling
and getting to know
different cultures all
around the world is the most
important part of a
civilised creative life.
That makes you whole and
helps you to get perspective
on the practices you want to
follow in your life.

ELENA

MRS. LINCOLN
You should be thankful that
you are getting the
opportunity.

Elena sinks to the chair and eats her food. Emily is looking at

ANN

assistant will get in touch
with you.

Mrs. Lincoln gets up. While walking out her look lingers on
Emily and her face appeared like she is trying to remember
something and make connection.

Ann walks towards Emily

ANN
Can I help you?

EMILY
I want to publish my story.

ANN
Have you brought the
manuscript with you?

EMILY
No I havent. Who is she?

Emily asks pointing at Mrs. Lincoln

ANN
Rebecca Lincoln

Emily looks confused at Ann

ANN
Famous curator and
connoisseur. Double
trouble.

Ann stifles a giggle and becomes serious again.

ANN
Well we are publishing her
latest critique. In fact, we
have been doing business
with her for a while.
Between you can sent your
manuscript to us either

EMILY
I I just want it to be here.

ANN

Emily squirms in the chair

EMILY
I.

ELENA
Its just one of those
things mom. It will pass

MRS. LINCOLN
Well this one is getting
worse by minute.
While turning around Mrs. Lincoln sees Emilys reflection in the
mirror. She staggers but straightens herself and then takes a
tissue, writes something on it and gives it to Elena. Elena
reads it and looks scared at her. Mrs. Lincoln looks calmly back

MRS.LINCOLN
GO

Elena leaves the room and Mrs. Lincoln keeps on working in the
kitchen.

Elena comes from behind Emily. She tiptoes and comes very close
to Emily and taps her shoulder

ELENA
What are you doing here?

Suddenly the kitchen door flings open and Mrs. Lincoln jumps out
of it. She runs towards Emily and grabs her hand. She watches
Emily closely.
