Overarching Project
ThelargestculminatingprojectthatIcompletedduringmyinternshipwasapilotforAimsweb
PlusandFastbridge.Ourdistricthadaneedtoreplaceourcurrentuniversalscreeningtool,
Aimsweb1.0.Thepilotwascompletedtodetermineiftherewasaprogramthatwasmore
suitableandbeneficialforusasalargedistrict.Generally,teachersandadministratorshave
beendissatisfiedwithAimsweb1.0overthepastfiveyearsduetoit'slimitedstandardsbased
assessmentsandit'sattachmenttotheAPPRagreement.
Bothprogramsweregiventometolearnandcreateacomprehensivetrainingandsupport
systemforteacherswhowerewillingtopilottheprograms.Therewere2teachersfromeach
gradelevelK6whotookpartinthispilotprogram,aswellasAISproviders.
Thisprojectrequiredmetolearneachprograminsideandoutandunderstandhowtorollout
theuseofeachprograminclassrooms.Iattendedmanyonlinetrainingcourses,demovideos
andinformationalwebinarstolearneachprogram.Ihadfrequentandongoingcommunication
witheachcurriculumcompany.
InDecemberItrainedallofthepilotteachersineachprogramduringatwodaytrainingheldin
myschool.Inpreparationforthis,IhadtocollaboratewithourInformationSystemand
Technologydepartment,theDirectorofElementaryEducation,ourAssistantSuperintendentfor
CurriculumandourDirectorofTechnologyandAccountability.
AimswebPlusandFastbridgearebothonlineassessmenttoolswhichrequiredalotof
coordinationofaccesstotechnology,usernamesandpasswordsandsecuretestingmodeson
ourdevices(kioskmode).Coordinatingthisamongthecurriculumcompany,teachers,IS
departmentandadministrationwasthemostchallengingpartofthisproject.Ittookmanyweeks
tomakesurethatallofthedeviceswereequippedwiththeproperprograms.
OverthesummerandinthefallIwillassistwiththeimplementationofFastbridgeasaK8
universalscreeningtool.

TheexperienceofinterninginthedistrictwhereIhavealwaystaughtwasatrulyenjoyable,
challengingandmotivatingexperience.IamleavingmyinternshipconvincedthatIammaking
therightdecisiontofollowmydesiretobecomeaneducationalleader.Throughthisexperience
Ihaveearnedtherespectofmanycolleaguesandhavegainedmanymentorsinmynetwork.
ThishasbeenarewardingexperiencethatwillundoubtedlyshapetheleaderIbecome.

WhilecompletingtheselfassessmentInoticedthatmyexperiencewithbudgets,legalmatters
andourcollectivebargainingunitwerelimited.ThisgoalalignswithStandard6whichstates
thata neducationleaderpromotesthesuccessofeverystudentbyunderstanding,responding
to,andinfluencingthelargerpolitical,social,economic,legal,andculturalcontext.
