Ideas for Paragraph Assignments

The list below has some ideas for paragraph topics. By no means is this list exhaustive
feel free to add/modify/delete topics as you see fit at your center. Selecting topics for
beginner writing assignments can be a challenge when it comes to students having enough
background knowledge/vocabulary. Repurposing passages/activities that were covered in
class can help students review and review familiar vocabulary and grammar structures.

Austen
1) *Note: Provide a list of adjectives for students to choose from instead of using the
terminology.* Complete this sentence. I am a(n) adjective person. Then write
about how and why you are that kind of person.
2) Write a self-introduction. Use the prompts on Page 3.
3) Interview your classmate using the questions on Page 13. Write a paragraph about
him/her.
4) Write about ELS/our classroom. Use Page 19 to help you.
5) Write about your family. Use Page 28 to help you. Make sure you use adjectives in
your paragraph. Use page 30 to help you.
6) Write about a famous person in your country. Use Page 29 to help you.
7) Write about your routine. Talk about what you do in the morning/afternoon/night
or weekday/weekend or summer/winter.
8) Write about your house in the US/your house in your country. Use Pages 64-65 to
help you.

10) Write about your best friend. Describe him/her and write about what you do
together.

1) Write about how to stay healthy in the summer/winter, in the US/in your country.

8) Write about how to be a good husband/wife/son/daughter/friend/students/

Talk about how to set up the location, what supplies to get, and what to do.
