Peoples of the Plateau
Some of the native people who lived in BC were the Pacific Coast
fishermen and the Peoples of the Plateau. The Pacific Coast fishermen
lived mainly by catching salmon. The giant cedars of the coastal forest
provided them with wood to build their longhouses and massive canoes as TRIBAL NAMES
well as totem poles. The Plateau peoples settled in a large valley Tlingit, Tsimshian, Haida,
surrounded by mountains and crisscrossed by rivers. They fished for
Bella Coola, Chilcotin,
salmon in the river and hunted animals like the mountain goat. In winter,
they dug pit houses, which were underground except for the roofs. Kwakiutl, Lillooet,
