1. Outdoor Pipework

The necessity of earthing of above ground outdoor Pipework the following measures has been
decided / agreed.

No further measure at the pipe work is required, if:

Conductive connection between clamps and pipe is ensured since the zinc content of the dry
prime coat is app. 85%.

A permanent, conductive connection from the support shoe towards the structure is considered
due to the dead weight of the pipe itself and metallic contact after one day/night or cold/hot
cycle.

This contact is sufficient for personal protection (equipotential bonding) and for lightning
protection.

Sleeper ways used for pipes and cable trays, see drawing ZEN000-YE03-BAW-A0001, are
connected to the earthing grid.

Earthing Concept

Insulated lines are treated as non-insulated lines since the metallic insulation cover is
connected by bolts and clamps to the pipe. The earthing of the insulation cover is achieved by
laying in metallic supporting shoes which are connected to the supporting steel structure or
sleeper way.

The earthing of pipes is performed via the main structure (steel structure or embedded plate):

Outdoor Sleeper ways shall be connected to the earthing grid, an earthing lug at the
embedded plate (welded connection) shall be provided for the connection to the same every
20m.

Stainless steel pipes have no conductive connection due to rubber sheets between stainless
steel pipe and carbon steel support the piping contractor will be instructed to provide stainless
steel clamps as shown in earthing typical 21 to enable earthing connection at every 20m.

2. Indoor Pipework and Metallic Cover of Pipe Insulation

No measures regarding earthing and lightning protection are required, since steel structure of
building is earthed and support hangers of pipe work are connected to steelwork.

3. This measures are not valid for underground pipes with pipe corrosion protection by cathodic
protection (impressed current)
