Choose a reaction from the following list and answer the following three questions. You are
encouraged to refer to scientific literature or information provided by manufacturer. Be as
specific as possible when citing references. General guideline for writing is about one page for 10
marks question at 1.15 spacing. You are encouraged to use tables and diagrams to aid
explanation and discussion.

List of reactions (choose ONE):

a) Formox reaction
b) Methanol cracking
c) Sabatier reaction
d) Hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline

List of questions:
1) Discuss the importance of the reaction in the chemical industry (10 marks)

2) With the use of Excel, plot a 3D graph to determine the extent of reaction. Your calculation
should cover pressure from 1 300 bar and temperature from room temperature to 1000oC.
(30 marks)

3) Please look up the common types of commercial catalyst for the reaction you have chosen.
Describe the catalysts in terms of their form and structure. (10 marks)
