1. PURPOSE OF THE METHOD STATEMENT


The purpose of this Method Statement is to outline the sequences and the methods of works intended
to be used for proper and safe installation of RMUs

2. SCOPE OF WORKS
The scope of works comprises:

Installation of RMUs

3. RESPONSIBILITY
a. Contracts Manager:
Overall in-charge of the project and reports to the general manager.
b. Project Manager:
Lead all construction activities and enforce strict adherence to all project requirement and will
report to contracts manager. The project manager shall be responsible to implement this method
statement and ensure that his team of engineer and supervisor are aware of this method
statement.
c. Electrical Engineer:
Understand fully the specifications/ drawings, documents, labor, plant and ensure all related
works are carried out in accordance with shop drawing, specifications, method statement,
schedule, quality and safety. Provide leadership, organizational support, skill and promote
teamwork to achieve the target. Report to Project Manger.
d. QA/QC Engineer:
Responsible to organize, implement & monitor the QA/QC program. Ensure that all related works
are carried out in accordance with the shop drawings, specifications, approved method
statement, Project Quality Plan. Conduct inspection on site work installation/testing. Generate
NCRs. Functions administratively under Contracts Manager but reports to QA/QC department
head
e. Safety Engineer:
Implement safety rules where necessary, ensure that all site personnel and visitors adhere to
safety rules, carry out inspection on the daily. Inspect tools/ equipments and personnel protective
equipments on site. Prepare and issue safety reports as and when required.

7. METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF RMU.

6.1 METHODS HANDLING:


6.1.1 Extra care shall be taken when transporting from sore to site location or even during
unpacking / installation to avoid any damage on the equipment.
6.1.2 Ensure that the correct capacity of crane and lifting accessories (cling, shackles etc.)
shall be used for lifting and provide with a competent operations and riggers.
6.1.3 Manufacturers manual /recommendations for lifting shall be followed.

6.2 METHODS FOR INSTALLATION OF RMU:


6.2.1 Ensure that the location where the RMU to be installed conforms to the approved
drawings and has been released for safe work execution. In case of any field changes in
the location to suit the field requirements, it shall be reflected on the drawings and
informed the engineering department for As-built drawing.
6.2.2 Ensure that material type, rating, size and area classification etc. conform to the project
specification and drawings. Check for the proper labels / identifications.
6.2.3 Obtain the work permit as required.
6.2.4 Ensure that the surface (i.e walls, structures, flooring etc. ) where it will be mounted are
well finished /painted. During installation the necessary covers/ protections shall be
provided on openings (which are generally not in use0 in the substation building / control
room floors, walls, door for safety purposes and to prevent dust ingress.
6.2.5 RMUs hall is transported to their location / area by using crane and Hiab while moving to
its final installation point, move / slide the RMUs along using pallet trolleys or scaffold
tube type rollers of 30mm min. diameter. in order to protect the underside paintwork insert
a suitable wooden board.
6.2.6 Place /position /align the RMUs as shown on the approved drawings. Drill and insert
anchors. Ensure that the proper type and size of anchors / bolts /washer are used.
6.2.7 Connect the sides of the panels (bolted together in case it comes on a separate unit) with
the other units as shown on venders manual / drawing. Check the alignment / leveling.
6.2.8 After the erection, all compartment doors and withdraw able trucks shall be checked to
ensure that they operate properly and without obstruction and that all compartments are
cleared of tools and erection debris.

6.2.9 In case of RMUs bus bar connection. Assembly shall be made as per the manufacturers
recommendation with proper care. Bus- bars shall be cleaned properly and contract
areas to be lightly applied with approved grease /base line recommended by the vendor.
Ensure that eh correct type and size of bolts /washers shall be used.
6.2.10 After the installation, the necessary protection shall be provided to the equipment when
required (i.e. cover with tarpaulin plastic, wood etc.) to prevent from any deterioration.
6.2.11 Clean the external / internal of the RMUs and the surroundings of the area.
6.2.12 Check the completeness of the internal of the RMUs and the surrounding of the area.
6.2.13 Ensure that all related works are done and completed (i.e earthing provided at least attwo
points) cabling / termination etc.) As specified on the approved drawings and
specifications.
6.2.14 Inspection shall be carried out by the competent authorities by notifying them through
inspection request form. Fill-up the ANMEP checklist and sign.

8. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

7.1 The following equipments will be used.


a. Crane
b. Trailers. Hiab
c. Lifting accessories (i.e Slings, Shackles, etc...)
d. Pallet trolleys.
e. Rope
f. Hand tool.

9. SAFETY AND RISK ASSESSMENT:

Safety equipment (Example: Hardhats, Safety shoes, Overalls, Gloves, Goggles as necessary) to
be worn at all times.
Site safety officer shall check and ensure all safety precautions are taken prior to commencement
of work.
All live area shall be barricaded with safety tape/ cones, with warning sign.
Access to the area shall be limited to the authorized personals only.
A list of all personnel involved in the testing shall be maintained.
A copy of approved method statement shall be kept at the site for review.
First aid box shall be kept at site.
