Additionally, he presented a 45 second variation that included appearances of

every local cast member who responded to the casting call that went out on
Facebook. Ms. Stewart asked if there were any comments or changes and the
consensus of the board was that all of the videos were suitable to market Los
Alamos to our target audiences. Ms. Stewart stated that she would be
presenting them to the Secretary of Tourism.
B. Fun & Games Consolidated Contract
In response to a board request at the June meeting, Ms. Stewart investigated the
possibility of Los Alamos County amending its existing contract to include area
attractions. The Countys procurement code bars the County from holding
contracts that others would pay into, however, the board considered renewing
the existing contract or coming to a new agreement with a contract holder that
could benefit area attractions specifically and continue to the services provided
to the County. Chair Ryn will present the possibility of the Los Alamos Commerce
and Development Corporation holding a possible new contract combining
distribution services for interested local enterprises with distribution services for
the County provided by the expiring agreement.
A. New Visitor Guide
The board discussed several updates and changes to the next edition of the
Visitor Guide. The current guide is designed to tell a story from beginning to end.
Some retailers have given feedback that what people are just looking for quick
information. Ms. Bucklin stated that she feels that Taos should not be allowed to
purchase a full page ad because it attracts tourism dollars out of Los Alamos
County. The board discussed placing a 16 mile restriction on ads purchased or a
60 mile restriction on ads purchased. Ms. Ehler stated that arbitrarily restricting
the radius of ad purchases may create a burden to interstate commerce. The
board also discussed updating attraction information in the visitor guide. For
instance, the Los Alamos County Ice Rink was not listed as a winter activity. Ms.
Bucklin stated that she could provide a more up-to-date map layer, it is a public
record. Mr. Empey stated that in the past, licensing fees had to be paid to the
cartographer who designed and created the original tan map. No action was
taken on this item.

III. PROJECTS, INITIATIVES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

A. Councils Tourism Initiative
Ms. Stewart stated that the County Council unanimously supported the
development of a Tourism Marketing Strategy. The first step would be to bring in

obtain. Simultaneously, staff have been directed to evaluate strategies and
factors for planning the tourism marketing strategy.

July 2016 - Recreation Programs Report
Walkup Aquatic Center
Senior Lifeguard Dacotah Hofer presented Swimming Safety at this years Safety Town Program. Dacotah taught
the children about safe behavior in, on and around the water. One way to help reduce drowning incidents among
children ages 5 through 12 is to teach water safety education. His presentation was designed to give children an
awareness of being safe around the water. Below are some simple sayings:

Swim as a Pair Near a Lifeguards Chair

Be Cool, Follow the Rules
Look Before You Leap
Think So You Dont Sink
Reach or Throw, Dont Go
Dont Just Pack It, Wear Your Jacket
Know About Boating Before You Go Floating

All over the world, infants and toddlers (0-5 years old) drown more frequently than people at any other age. In this
age group drowning is the leading cause of death, followed by accidents in and around the home and road traffic
accidents. With adequate supervision around the water, you can prevent a tragedy before it happens.

Triathlon approaching soon July 30. The Aquatic Center will be closed all day for the event. Splash and Dash dates
remaining at the Aquatic Center July 6 and 20. Or be sure to get your swim in throughout the week.

to ensure parking and facilities were accessible. PROS Staff are coordinating with Environmental Services to
coordinate film equipment staging in the parking lot of the White Rock transfer station for the month of August.
