Project Proposal

Group 5

Title: Silk Board KR Puram Corridor of Bangalore Metro

Objective and scope of the study:
Silk Board KR Puram Corridor line is one of the most aspirational project underway for the
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd connecting two of the busiest hubs in the Silicon Valley of
India. The project was aimed at eliminating the issues arising from increasing traffic on this corridor
as it became the new hub for several Tech Parks along its 17km stretch employing over 1 million
people. This had severely impacted the existing infrastructure and created a need for more
sophisticated and robust system to support the ever increasing traffic on the corridor.
In this report we wish to cover the most prominent socioeconomic aspects, issues, challenges and
hurdles that have or may arise in the project and the strategies to mitigate and reduce the risk. We
would be covering the key project management related aspects like:
Scope, background and need for this particular project
Type of the project structure
Serviceability and coverage of the project
Existing phase done and the pipeline
Financial feasibility: the project provides details of some of the most innovative financing
methods for the project and the related costs associated
Social feasibility and the benefit to the society
Environmental feasibility: amidst the deteriorating environmental condition of Bangalore,
how this project is environmentally feasible, if at all
Economic feasibility
Project schedule: the timeline for the various activities and the implementation plan
Future plans: any future plans related to project that may also be viable as per the feasibility
studies
Risks involved and the likely solutions for them

So the broad objective of the report is to touch upon the most crucial aspects of the project
management and do an analysis of each aspect to assess the project feasibility and its benefits.

Methodology and Work Plan:

The work plan would be to start with the background of the project and and look upon the factors
that contributed to the seeding of the idea and then subsequent developments that led to present
state of the project. Next would be to run through the project structure and the feasibility analysis of
the project and come up with a checklist for the number of factors the project fulfills the criteria for
the analysis. In the end we would like to address the various challenges and issues that would need
to be anticipated and resolved in a proactive order to keep the project on track and meet the
stipulated deadlines.

In this report we would be relying on the secondary research data gathered from the various
resources and would also be making certain reasonable assumptions wherever applicable. We would
also try to interview some of the personnel involve in the project to get a first-hand perspective of
the project and if possible squeeze out some of the primary data related to the project. In addition
to this we would also be carrying out comparison analysis of the project with similar other projects
being carried out in other cities as well. Also since some of us have worked on the same corridor
ourselves we would be using our contacts and personal experiences in order to gather a social
feedback and public sentiment for the project.

Deliverables:

Key deliverables of this report would be:

Create an understanding of this type of projects and to articulate the reasons and need for
such projects in developing and fostering economies
Establish an understanding for the project structure and its similarities and differences with
respect to other similar projects
Analysis of the various feasibility studies for the project and present a run down for the most
critical aspects addressed in these studies
Highlight the real life challenges faced in such projects and how are the associated risks
mitigated
Understand how project scheduling and timelines are created on a large scale to
accommodate for smaller variations of scope creep in large projects
A comprehensive summary for the project on how it will impact the existing system and
what are the expected commercial, economic and social benefits that are the primary
drivers of the project
