2. 250,000 BBLs of crude oil was imported from Kuwait. At the export terminal, the specific
gravity of crude oil was found to be 0.78 at the temperature of 96 F. When the consignment was
received at the Karachi terminal the temperature was 72 F. The quantity received at the import
terminal was 247,300 BBLs.. Calculate the sp. gr. of crude oil at the receiving, terminal?
SOLUTION
Density of oil at 96 F; 0.78 x 8.33 lb/gal. = 6.497 lb/gal
The density of oil at 72 oF; 6.82 x 107 lb / 247300 BBL = 275.853 lb/BBL => 6.56 lb/gal
3. Small animals can live at reduced air pressure down to 20 kPa. In a test a mercury manometer is
attached to a tank reads 64.5 cm Hg and the barometer reads100 kPa. Will the mice survive?
1. The pressure gauge on atank of CO2 used to fill soda water bottles reads 51.0 psi. at the same
time barometer reads 28 in. Hg. What is the absolute pressre in psia?
2. From the export oil terminal of Iran 10,000 barrels(BBL) of crude oil with sp. Gr. of 0.78 at a
temperature of 66 F was exported. The consignment was received at the import terminal at
Kemari, where the sp. Gr. was recorded as 0.71 at a temperature of 110 F. calculate the volume
received at Kemari? (1 U.S. Barrel = 42 Gallons).
SOLUTION:
Density of oil at 66 oF = 0.78 x 8.33 lb/gal = 6.974 lb/ gal x 42 = 272.8908 lb/BBL
Density of oil 110 oF = 0.71 x 8.33 lb/gal = 5.9143 lb/gal x 42 = 248.4006 lb/BBL
