TECHNOLOGICAL INSTRUCTION FOR

ACTION FOR THE CLOSED MOULDS


WAITING FOR POURING FOR
MORE THAN 5 DAYS
The moulding shop is to coordinate with SMS for availability of liquid metal required
as per the pouring plan so that waiting time for pouring of closed moulds does not
exceed more than 5 days.

In cases where waiting time exceeds more than 5 days due to unforeseen reasons
beyond control, the following measures to be taken before the mould is taken up for
pouring.

1. Dislodge the pouring cup over sprue.


2. Unload the counterweights placed and remove clamps between cope and drag.
3. Remove the cope box.
4. Clean the parting surface from dried bentonite paste.
5. Clean the drag mould and gating system thoroughly. For complicated castings
involving many cores decision for removal of some core to facilitate the mould
cleaning shall be taken up from case to case on the basis of mould condition.
6. Check the cope box for any damage.
7. Close the mould after applying bentonite paste for sealing. Cover the riser
openings.
8. Dry the mould again for the recommended period as per process sheet.
9. Do the preparatory work for pouring e.g., clamping, placement of pouring basin,
counterweight etc.
