Cultural Intelligence

In this modern developing world CQ plays the vital role in the Business environment. It

means is ability to function efficiently in the working environment by adopting ourselves to the

new culture quickly. An epitome that highlights the CQ is that when you are interacting (or) if you

are in a meeting with the American if there is a long pass (or) silence in the conversation it shows

that you are in confusion (or) distracted (or) bored. As a project manager, it is better to know about

the cultures of the project team members to avoid the conflicts.

My overall CQ assessment score is 4. I have come across the CQ in my workplace. In my

workplace, we were team of seven members who are from different part of the world and English

is not their native language. In the beginning, it was difficult to communicate with each other and

work as team. And each of the mind set were different. One of my team members used to talk to

everyone and making fun which was annoying for my two members of my team did not like this

and they report to the manager. After talking to him they came to understand that making fun and

keeping everyone happy is a part of his culture and management gave the warning to him. Then I

came to know for such an extent culture can even affect in workplace.

When you are working as team it is good to aware of the culture of your colleagues. This

can be done by introducing themselves to all of team members. One can improve CQ personally,

when they know their peers and where they are from then research their culture background (or)

skim it at least once in the online. Also, CQ can be assed (or) improved based on the four qualities:

motivation (CQ Drive), Cognition (CQ Knowledge), Meta-cognition (CQ Strategy) and Behaviour

(CQ Action). In my point of view CQ is a set of shared values, beliefs, assumptions, habits, and

language also it influences how the project is performed and its success.
