Injection Moulding of Piastic
Injection Moulding of Piastic
VOCUBULARY
Plastic pellets are fed from the hopper into a cylinder. The pellets are
pushed along the cylinder by a rotating screw, and heated. The screw stops
rotating and then a ram in front of the screw moves straight forward. The
warm plastic is pushed towards a nozzle by the ram. The soft plastic is injected
through the nozzle into a shaped cavity between the two halves of a mould.
Inside the cavity, the plastic is cooled by the mould, and becomes hard. The
mould opens and solid plastic shape is ejected.
Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by
injecting material into a mould and can be performed with a host of materials
mainly including metals, glasses, elastomers, confections, and most commonly
thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.
