One of the positive effects of media and information to the economy is the opening of BPO (Business Processing
Outsourcing) in the different cities in the Philippines.

What is BPO?

These are companies in developed countries like the United States of America, Australia, Canada, who invested
in the Philippines to open branches of their companies here.
Work being done in their country are processed in the Philippines where the salary is much lower and the
Filipinos are just as qualified as the people in their country that would be receiving only one tenth of the salary
in their country.
With the availability of modern technology and the new media information, many job opportunities are open to
qualified young people who have the skills and proficiency in English these are proficient in listening, speaking,
reading and writing.

Two Kinds of Jobs Available for Filipinos in BPO Companies

The voice job where they in the call centers, talking to costumers in the different parts of the world.
The non-voice job where most of the jobs are in front of the computers reading and writing communication of
business transactions in the different parts of the world.

In Asia, there are four places where BPO jobs are available, Hog Kong, Singapore, India and the Philippines
where English is their second language.

With the use of modern technology in media and information many new job opportunities available to young people
because most company prefer to avail of the new media.

o Companies are able to save on the number of employees.

o Most transactions use the computers.
o Communications whether oral or written, are decoded and encoded in the computers and business transaction
are done on the spot.
o In the area of education, computers are used for record keeping especially in the Registrars Office and for
computation of grades of the students are also computerized.
o In the computer laboratory, different subjects use the computers with particular software for their lessons
o In the classroom, computers with LCD are available for visual aids and presentations.
o In government offices, computers are used for different kinds of transactions and communications.
o In churches, LCD and computers are used during mass or service and announcements are presented to the
public thru the LCD.

Young people who are computer literate have greater chances to get a job.
