EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We know that there are different types of communication between

human beings that we have been developing throughout history.
One of the most important are roads and roads that now form a
fundamental part of the daily life of human beings. So now it is quite
a science the design of these roads and highways as they are part
of a specialty in civil engineering. The conditions of this design that
is part of specialty depends on the terrain and the topography
especially and good we will try to explain a method of design of an
existing road so that it has an idea of how some data can be
calculated and with the help of a surface.

INTRODUCTION

It is known that the highway is a means to unite two cities for the
exchange of goods. Therefore, we will explain a layout both the
horizontal and vertical alignment of the city of Pasco. We have a
guide behind that gives us to make the design of a road and to be
able to make the smallest cut and filling.
The design must be optimum to avoid expenses for this reason we
will have to design with software that will facilitate the work and the
visualization in 3D and design calculations.
Finally, mass balance is required to assume that all cutting material
is suitable for filling and thus avoid missing and that over material
and thus not having an unnecessary expense

CHAPTER I: GENERAL INFORMATION

Location

The project is located Pasco City. It is located in the central part of the country,

east of the Western Cordillera, with central Andean Peru and high and middle

jungle of the Pachitea River. Its capital, the city of Cerro de Pasco, with an

altitude of almost 4.338 msnm, is the highest of the country. It limits to the north

with Hunuco; To the south with Junn; The east, with Ucayali; And to the west

with Lima.

South latitude: 9 34 23.00".

West longitude : 743632" y 764318"
Z : 4 380 msnm

7
At more than 4 000 m above sea level, the climate is cold, with 15 C during

the day and less than 0 C at night. There are rains from November to March,

and in the fierce winds after noon. The city of Cerro de Pasco has an annual

average of 4 C, with a maximum temperature of 10 C and a minimum of -11

C. In the province of Oxapampa the climate is tropical; In the city of the same

name, the annual average is 18 C, the maximum being 28 C and the

minimum being 6 C

Description of the project

The project consists of designing a road between two determined points, where

they already give us the stroke. The project should include the following

characteristics:

o Obtaining the cross section per station.

o Define the Mass Diagram and Haul Mass.

o Balance between fill and cut volume.

o 3D design.

Design criteria

In the final design was made following the most of the guidance of the Manual

de Carreteras Diseo Geomtrico (DG-2013) from Peru.

Considerations on designing

The project was design per the following considerations

o The road will be a two-lane rural road

o Maximum grade for road will be 10%.
o Minimum grade is +-1.5%.

8
o Design speed = 50 km/hr.
o The road will consist of simple horizontal curves only
o The roadway must follow the existing alignment to reduce
earthwork.
o Horizontal and vertical curve designs will be presented in metric
units.

3.2) Subbase, base and asphalt
According to the software manual the Subbase is defined by Srf1, the base by
Srf2 and the asphalt by Srf3. In that scenario, the following figure shows the
values per station of subbase, base and asphalt.

- Subbase: 8859.32 m3
- Base: 3311.9 m3
- Asphalt: 1150.4 m3

CHAPTER V: CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

- The balance of cut and fill are:

Cut: 140458 m3

Fill: 140650 m3

Balance: 191 m3 of material that we need to borrow.

- Since the surface where we are working have different level curves, along the design
points where the allowed heights of cut and fill does not satisfy the requirements.
- Our minimum value of radius calculated:
- In the progressives where the fill high is elevated we need to evaluate if we should use
retaining walls or not.
