How We Express Ourselves

Dear Parents,
Throughout the year, we will be completing six IB Units of Inquiry. Im excited to announce our current IB
unit, How We Express Ourselves- an inquiry into self-awareness and the ability to analyze multiple
perspectives allow us to be better Citizens.

Students will investigate the central idea through the following lines of inquiry:
- People are responsible for their actions (Responsibility)
- Awareness of different points of view leads to deeper understanding (Perspective)
- Being aware of self allows one to be mindful of others (Reflection)
- The ways to express perspectives. (perspective)

Focus questions during this unit will include but not be limited to:
- Why is it important to understand different perspectives?
- How can someone take responsibility for his/her actions?
- What do you do when faced with a situation you are uninformed about?
- How does an individuals experience and background influence perception of an issue?
- What does Self-awareness creates mindful action mean?

We will begin to really dive into this unit next week (September 12th). Our culminating project for this unit
will be a presentation (in pairs or independently) on a local or global issue. Students will be delving into the
different perspectives of an issue of their choice and will come up with a possible solution to the issue. Almost
all of this project will be completed in class.

If you can share any expertise or materials that relate to this IB unit or have any questions, please feel free to
contact me!

Sincerely,

Ms. Tredway
