LEARNING PLAN IN ENGLISH 8


Subject/Level: English 8 Quarter: Third Week:
Unit: Date: February 27, 2024
Transfer Goal/s: The learners in the long run and on their own, will be able to see
things from a different perspective and treat other people equally.
Essential Understanding: The students will demonstrate an understanding of the
concept of bias and ways to determine the author's biases. They will be aware of how
to treat and interact with others, both consciously and subconsciously.

Essential Question:
1. Why do we need to learn how to examine biased and unbiased writing?

I. Preliminaries
Energizer:
Review: Group reporting about Asian Country’s best literature.
Focus: Biased and unbiased writing of the author.
Unlocking of Difficulties:

BIAS – refers to an author’s expression of his/her own opinion on a


particular issue without examining and presenting enough evidence.
UNBIASED – refers to being fair and not likely to support one particular
person or group involved in something.
SUBJECTIVE – Unfair presentation of the issue and only focuses on
one side.
OBJECTIVE – Fair presentation of the issue. Focuses on both sides.

Motivation: This or That


The students will choose their favorite between the two pictures shown
on the screen.

APK:
1. Was there ever a time when you decided on something you preferred over the
other? What was the situation, and how did it make you feel?

II. Lesson Development


A. Presentation of Concept
Students will be able to:
 Determine the concept of bias.
 Recognize the types of biases..
 Appreciate the importance of examining biases.
Activity #1: Sentence BINGO. Students will be given a BINGO card. Each paper has
a number and a bias statement. A random student will pick a paper from the box.
Then, the picked number will be crashed out on the bingo card. The more crashed
number on the bingo card, the more points.
Activity #2: Evaluating Types of Biases. Students will be grouped into 5. Each
group will receive 4 strips of biases. On their respective charts, they are going to
paste the strips according with the type of bias that it belongs.

Activity #3: TALKSHOW. With the same group, students are going to do a role-play
with their assigned type of bias. They will be scored according to the criteria:
Content - 20pts
Creativity - 10pts
Presentation – 10 pts
Total - 40pts.

B. Broadening of Concept

How can examining biases will help you examine unfair and baseless opinions
made by some authors on a certain issue?

As a Michaelite, how can you influence other people to promote equality to our
community?

IV. Purposive Assignment
Instruction: In a short bond paper, make a poster of a biased advertisement of
any product. Choose one only from the types of biases as basis of the
advertisement. Make it unique and creative.

V. Summary/Action (Transfer)
We inevitably become biased and choose what we want to believe and apply. It
is very important to detect bias because it helps us identify the purpose of the
article, movies, pictures, paintings, songs, speeches etc. It will also strengthen
our understanding of the relevance and importance of the ideas mentioned by
the author/speaker as well as the issues and assumptions or stance he/she
presents.
As a Michaelite, how will you take part in avoiding discrimination to our
society?
