Frankenstein: Summary
Part one: Walton's Narrative

During an expedition towards the North Pole Robert Walton writes all history to his sister by letter.
He is very ambitious and he wants to discover something useful for science. He is not afraid of
death or danger. He managed to finance his trip because he inherited a fortune 6 years ago. One day,
Robert and his team find a man called Victor Frankenstein in the North Pole. Victor Frankenstein, in
very bad state of health, tells to Robert his story to warn him of risks of his expedition. Robert
admires Victor and listens to the story.

Part two: Frankenstein's Narrative

Victor was born in Geneva, he has a little brother called William and an adopted sister called
Elizabeth. His best friend is called Henry Clerval. Victor is fascinated by science. He wants to
succeed where other men fails. One day, his mother becomes ill by trying to nurse Elizabeth and she
dies. He goes later to the university of Ingolstadt, where he begins studying thanks to the words of
the professor of chemistry. He works day and night on death bodies and succeeds to give life to a
monster. He studies the progress of their decay. Victor is horrified by his disgusting invention and
becomes ill. Clerval, his childhood friend, comes to visit him, because his family worries. Victor
recovers little by little.

Part three: Frankenstein's Narrative

Victor receives a letter of his father announcing William's death. They found him dead, strangled in
Plainpalais, and the locket which he carried was torn off. Victor returns then in Geneva to see his
sad family. He is persuaded that the monster which he created is guilty. But he is afraid that people
would think he is mad. Justine, the servant of Frankestein's family, is accused and sentenced to
death because they found the locket in her pocket. She was hung. To calm his pain, Victor is going
to walk in the mountain and suddenly, he sees his creature. He doesn't want to speak to him, but the
monster wants that Frankenstein listens to his story and makes a deal, otherwise he will kill all
persons whom Victor loves.

Part four: The Creature's Narrative

The monster tells how he woke up in life, how he discovered hunger, cold, heat, fright, pleasure and
pain. Everybody escapes him because of his appearance. He arrives in a village, where he is
attacked by the cottagers. He runs away in a hut which shared the same wall with another house. He
observes secretly a family of three people: "Father", "Felix" and "Agatha". He discovers love, peace
and serenity. The monster tells how he began speaking language thanks to the family which he
observed and which he helped in secret. He understood, by having seeing his reflexion in the water,
that the human beings hated him. The arrival of Safie in the family allows him to learn at the same
time as she. He learns a little about the histories, governments, customs and religions of many
different countries. He is amazed because he finds that the human beings could be powerful, noble,
and goob, but, at the same time so violent and evil. He feels alone and doesn't know who he is,
where from he comes and wonders if somebody looks like him.
