MID-POINT THEOREM

AIM : To verify mid- point theorem of a triangle experimentally.

MATERIALS REQUIRED : (1) Coloured Papers

(2) Geometry Box

(3) Glue
(4) A pair of scissors

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE : When any two lines are cut by a transversal and if a pair of
corresponding angles are equal then the lines are parallel.

PROCEDURE :

(1) Cut a triangle from a coloured paper and name it as ABC.

(2) Find the mid- points P and Q of sides AB and AC respectively by paper folding.

(3) Join P and Q by folding and making a crease PQ.

(4) Cut APQ. Superimpose AQ over QC so that QP falls along CB.

RESULT :

(1) AQP covers QCB exactly. These are corresponding angles made on PQ and BC by AC.
Therefore PQ is parallel to BC.

(2) Also it is found that PQ is equal to half of BC.

(3) Thus it is verified that the line segment joining the mid points of any two sides of a triangle is
parallel to the third side and is equal to half of it.
