Station 1

Place a colored ice cube in the cup of


warm water. Observe what happens,
draw and label in your notes.

Answer the following questions on your

Explain how heat is causing the
movement you observe.
Station 2
Place a scoopula in the beaker of cold water and the
beaker of hot water.
Allow to sit in the water for 2-3 minutes.
While are waiting, answer the following
What is happening to the molecules that make up the scoopula?
What do you think will happen as they sit in the warm and cold water?

Feel the end of the scoopula that is sticking out of the water
and record your observations on your note sheet.
Write a brief explanation as to how the heat was
transferred through the scoopula.
Station 3
Dont change the set up for this station! There should be
two bags the same distance from the lamp and they
have been heating up since the activity began.
Record the temperature every minute for 5 minutes and
record your data. Also check the temperature of the air
between the lamp and the bags.
Answer the following questions on your note sheet.
Which color absorbed heat better? How do you
know?
Did the air temperature change? Explain why or why
not.
