Personal Narrative Outline

Intro:
- Hook: My third grade year of elementary I competed in the oral language competition
and won first place. As a reward I was given a blocky yellow 4,000 page dictionary
designed for kids at the age of ten. (first source as a child) I was discombobulated with
the award (expecting more of a toy) but what was even more out of the ordinary I would
scan the dictionary for entertainment
Thesis:
Because of my sponsors of literacy, surroundings, and my rigorous class courses I have
developed certain strengths in my writing which is the prior reason why I am the first in my
family to have attended a University.

Body Paragraphs:

Paragraph 1:
- Detail 1:The first encounter of my attempt in developing my writing skills was the people I
interacted with

- Detail 2: Form of languages I utilized as a child growing up: informal, colloquial, slang
- Detail 3: Older brother and sister would speak to me in English; however their first
language was Spanish

- Detail 1: as I was growing up I would choose the easy way out (picked illustration books
instead of educational ones) my parents did not know what was best for me, just as long
they saw a book in my hands they thought it was good enough

- Detail 3: Growing up in a small town public school did not provide many advanced
courses even though I was an advanced level of English it was not enough to prepare
me for college

- Detail 1: It wasnt until my Senior year where I got a feel for how college expects their
students to be at a certain level and that course was my AP Literature course

- Detail 2: First time reading Shakespeare and I did not understand what the main
message was
- Detail 3: As time passed I was exposed to Frankenstein, Brave New World, A Dolls
House, The Namesake, Death of a Salesman (throughout the year my mind began to
think broader and complex wasnt so complex because we had studied different writing
styles an author uses ) ***LITERARY DEVICES

- Detail 1: As the years went on I got more involved with reading and had professional
conversations

- Detail 2: I was a Sabbath School teacher for the youth and I would study a Biblical guide
- Detail 3: interviews with main directors for jobs, representative positions, communicating
with professors

Conclusion:
As a result, my reading and writing skills were not so effective throughout my early stages of my
youth, but it was the sponsors of literacy as well as my community in which helped me grow to
have professional interviews, have suitable writings, and understand an authors complex work
