A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

Ive Got My Passport!

John 3:1-8 and 13-15

My wife and I are back from our two week vacation to southern
Italy. It was a wonderful time as we visited a country of historic
beauty. But before we could begin this trip of a lifetime, there was
a lot to do in planning for our excursion.

If you have traveled international, you know exactly what Im

talking about! In order have a good experience there must be
good planning!

And so it is in our spiritual journey good planning will assure us

of our entry into the Kingdom of God. On Sunday, Ill have us
look at this very familiar passage from the Gospel of John. Its all
about a passport!
See you at 10 AM for Sunday Worship!

Beginning June 11th (Trinity Sunday) and until

November 19th the altar Colors are green,
symbolizing the renewal of vegetation and generally
of living things and the promise of new life!

Our suggested Scripture reading for October 1, 2017, from the 2017
UCC Church Calendar:

Exodus 17:1-7 (NLT)

Water from the Rock
17 At the LORDs command, the whole community of Israel left the
wilderness of Sin and moved from place to place. Eventually they camped
at Rephidim, but there was no water there for the people to drink. 2 So
once more the people complained against Moses. Give us water to drink!
they demanded.
Quiet! Moses replied. Why are you complaining against me? And why
are you testing the LORD?
3
But tormented by thirst, they continued to argue with Moses. Why did you
bring us out of Egypt? Are you trying to kill us, our children, and our
livestock with thirst?
4
Then Moses cried out to the LORD, What should I do with these people?
They are ready to stone me!
5
The LORD said to Moses, Walk out in front of the people. Take your staff,
the one you used when you struck the water of the Nile, and call some of
the elders of Israel to join you. 6 I will stand before you on the rock at Mount
Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people
will be able to drink.

So Moses struck the rock as he was told, and water gushed out as the
elders looked on.
7
Moses named the place Massah (which means test) and Meribah (which
means arguing) because the people of Israel argued with Moses and
tested the LORD by saying, Is the LORD here with us or not?

School Supplies Delivered!

For the last few months we have been
collecting school supplies for
an elementary school in a less affluent
area. Your response to this project
has been fantastic!

A few weeks ago, John Peters visited

Bennett Elementary School in Detroit
and delivered our big box of supplies
to Dina Bonomo, Principal of the
school.

Thanks to all the members of

Dearborn Congregational who helped
in making this happen!

Neighbors in Need Offering

We will be receiving a special offering on October 1st Neighbors

in Need is a special mission of the UCC that supports ministries of
justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third
of NIN funds support the Council for American Indiana Ministry
and two-thirds of the offering will go to support a variety of justice
initiative, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through
grants. The grants are awarded to churches and organizations
doing justice work in their communities.

Helping the Needy in Michigan

We are now collecting non-perishable food donations that will be delivered
to the Fish & Loaves food pantry, in Taylor. This organization was first
launched by an ecumenical group of churches, led by St. Paul United
Church of Christ in Taylor and their Pastor, Rev. Geoff Drutchas.

Fish & Loaves offers needy families and individuals

a wide range of canned goods, refrigerated and
frozen foods, dairy products, and seasonal produce
at no cost to clients. Since opening its doors in 2008,
the Fish & Loaves Pantry has assisted more than
9100 households and over 13,000 men, women, and
children. They distribute over two million pounds of
food annually.
