Essay 1 Final Draft

Cheers, heres to the life that runs through my veins

I cant believe I have to go through another day of this. Who am I kidding; this is the rest

of my life. I am a slave to everyone but me (CONTROL 2). I need a drink (OBS1). I can hear

them downstairs; theyre like leeches waiting to suck the life out of me. Maybe I can sneak a

little Baileys into my coffee just to take the edge off (OBS2). Mom when are you making

breakfast (CONTROL1). Im coming, just give me a minute I think to myself. They opened the

blinds already. It is so bright in here. (LIGHT1). Jenna is so beautiful, her eyes are hazel, and her

hair is so full of body. Her skin looks like fine porcelain my first born. (BODY1). I look at her

and smile; she returns the smile with the role of her eyes (BL1). God I hate teenagers. I dont

mean that; God forgive me. (CONTROL3). I need that drink (OBS3). Mom Im hungry Okay,

okay, bacon, eggs and toast is are coming up. Jeremy, my middle boy, smiles (BL2); he is so cute

with his curly hair and grey eyes. His skin is so clear you can see his veins. (BODY2). Its

unfortunate he has to stay out of the sun. He burns very quickly; its odd how quick his skin

burns when exposed to the rays. (LIGHT2) YEAH, breakfast. My husband Jake is still the

hunk I married. Babe, dont forget I am hanging out with the guys tonight. He cant do that,

how can I handle the rest of the day and the evening too! You cant, I have to get the kids to

their meetings, cook dinner, prepare and prepare for your party tomorrow. Just in case you

forgot, then get everyone settled in for the night, and then I have to go to work. You cant just

not come home when you dont want to. How I am supposed to handle everything. You were

supposed to help me and dont tell me you told me about this before. If you did we would not

have scheduled the party for tomorrow (RANT) Babe Im sorry but I am late for work, gotta

go. Love you He had the nerve to peck my cheek. God I hate my life (CONTROL4). The

Baileys under the sink. I need a drink (OBS4). The smoke detector goes off. Somethings

burning (SMELL). Open the windows (LIGHT3). Their goes breakfast. Jenna would be the

one to say something. Mommy my eyes hurt Justin my little one is so quiet. He only speaks

when he needs something. Sometimes I dont hear him enter the room. He just appears. He gives

me this puppy dog look (EYES). I think Id give him almost anything with that look

(CONTROL5). Mommy I want ice cream I need a drink (OBS5). Cereal for all, no

exceptions.

Chores for everyone, first clean your room, everyone has an hour. I can see Jenna working

up to a saying or do something. ; Mom if dad was supposed to help, then why are we being

punished? Jenna places her hands on her hip taking the mother role (BL3). I immediately walk

up to her and place my hands on my hip in a wide legged stance (BL4). She gets the meaning

without me saying a word. She lowers her hands and lowers her eyes (BL5). ); Jenna we all

have chores in this house and if your room is messy it needs to be cleaned. She stomps off to

her room (BL6). I clean the kitchen. In the family room, I see my husbands sneakers strewn on

the floor (SIGHT), and can hear an annoying cacophony of sound coming from Jenna stereo

(SOUND). Smoke is in the fabric of the sofa, boy I wish I had Febreeze (SMELL)

(ADVERTISEMENT) and since I am barefoot I can feel the grit on the bottom of my feet

(TOUCH). OOOH I can feel the cold wine rolling over my tongue a merlot (TASTE) and

down my throat. Red would be great right about now. (OBS6).

While cleaning, I notice how dreary the walls are. The room seems dark. I knew we

should have painted (LIGHT4). During the day with the blinds open it is still dreary in here

(LIGHT5). I think Ill sit for a minute and plan a menu for tomorrow. Mommy wake up, Im

hungry (CONTROL6) You just ate Justin shakes his head (BL7). Mom its 12:00, he wants

lunch Wow did you ever wake up and have no perception of time. I dont remember sleeping or

feeling the time pass. I dont know where I was but I know I want to go back. I dont know what

I was doing but I know I was alone and there was no noise. I had an intense feeling of peace

(DREAM). Mommy lunch! (CONTROL7). Why cant I be like the 1950s TV mom? She was

always happy to do for the children. She was always ready to bake cookies. Why did I have to be

born in 1975?

Hot dogs and Mac and Cheese that should keep them quiet for a while. Jeremy where is

your sister? He replies On the phone sullenly. Jeremy shes grounded from using the phone.

He replies Yeah mom not my day to watch her. Thanks, Jeremy eat your lunch. Its my job

to watch her and I will find out who she is talking to. Can I pick up the receiver without her

hearing? Lets see. Come on Jenna no one would know. You can come over after midnight and

be home before anyone wakes up? (ASTRAY) I hear my daughter say If my mom finds out I

will be grounded for a month Try a year. How will she know? Ill think about it and call you

later. I walk in her room with my arms folded and my eyebrows raised (BL8). Mom you were

listening to my private phone call. How could you. You invaded my privacy. You dont trust me

(CONTROL8). You are grounded for a month. You will not see the sun or feel it on your skin.

(LIGHT6). Mom I didnt do anything yet. You didnt even give me the chance to get into

trouble. You dont even know if I was going to go out. Young lady it doesnt matter. You were

grounded before you picked up the phone. You intended to get into trouble just by making the

phone call. I stood there with my finger pointed at her and glaring like a mad woman (BL9).

She backed up and her lip trembled (BL10). I cant believe it, no back talk, roll of the eyes,

nothing. I must really look like someone about to lose it. Do we have beer in the house? (OBS7)

Clean the kitchen for the third time. Justin why are all the lights on? I need them to

see the dust? (LIGHT7) Justin dust the furniture in one room at a time, then you would only

need one light. I didnt think of that Its 1:30 in the afternoon, the sun is over the house and it

is 85 degrees out (LIGHT8) why does he need a light? Guys listen up; we are not going to any

practices today or play groups. We are going to focus on the house for the party tomorrow.

Jeremy slams his hand on the table (BL11), Justin bites his lower lip (BL12) and Jenna quietly

states something about someone should do something to her rear end. I didnt hear all of it but I

know what she meant. (KISS) We will talk about that after I have a drink (OBS8).

I head down to the basement to do the laundry, The the basement is so dark. No wonder

we arent down here so much. It gives me the creeps (LIGHT9). The contrast of brightness is so

startling from the basement to the kitchen it is almost blinding. (LIGHT10). While doing the

laundry the phone rings. One ring, two rings, three rings, I am going to miss it. I must have

missed it. It stopped ringing. Mom get the phone, its dad How would Jenna know who was on

the phone without answering. She is in so much trouble. Hi, did you change your mind about

hanging out with the boys? He answers, No babe, I just think we shouldnt be so hard on

Jenna. She is a teenager not a baby. We have to let her grow up. She is so grounded, how did

you know something was going on with me and Jenna? She called you didnt she, do you even

know what she did? (CONTROL9). I am tired of your liberal flower power ways when it comes

to the kids. She was talking to a boy about sneaking out after midnight. You may not think that is

something to be upset about but I do? Hello do you remember how she came to be? Do you

remember what we did after midnight? Jenna will not see the sun for at least a month

(LIGHT11). You better remember this; if she gets pregnant you will be the one up in the middle

of the night with our grandchild. Not me. I hang up the phone loudly. I grab a glass and put ice

in it (OBS9). Im getting a headache and rub the cold glass on my forehead. Mommy can I have

some ice cream? Yes baby come here. I put the glass in the sink.

Jenna clean all of the bathrooms and do it now She folds her arms over her chest

(BL13). Dad thinks you are not fair, and he thinks you are too hard on me. Jenna if you dont

take your arms down and get into the bathroom and start cleaning, remember that statement you

quietly made about your rear end. I wont have to worry about that statement because you wont

be able to sit on your rear end for a very long time. This time Jenna backed up and cowered in

the corner. (BL14). Get in the bathroom and clean it Jenna takes off past me while covering her

rear end. (BL15). I think I need to visit Jim Bean. (OBS10).

5pm and I havent started dinner but the house is clean. I think pizza would go great with

a red wine. I think I deserve it after today (OBS11). 6pm the pizza arrives. ; Dinner is here

come and eat. Jeremy stomps down complaining about missing practice. He rolls his eyes

(BL16) and he says she didnt have time to take me to practice and didnt even cook. Justin

comes down holding his belly and is bent over (BL17). Mommy my tummy hurts. Jenna

comes down; sits in her seat and starts to eat. I give Justin and bath, some medicine and he falls

asleep. I put him in bed. When I go down stairs the kitchen is clean and the left over pizza is in

the box on top of the counter. I call my job and take a personal day off. I tell the kids to be in bed

by their bed time and I take a bath. I am asleep by 9pm. I wake up to a feather light kiss on my

cheek. I turn over and roses are lying next to me. Its 9:15pm. I go in search of him. He is in the

basement finishing the laundry.
