Week Three Overall Reflection

This week, I had to deal with more behavior issues than usual, regarding the

technology and gum rules. I have had a few of my students begin to push the boundaries, so

I have had to use my classroom management procedures and discipline plan in order to

manage these behaviors. A few students got their first warning for having their phone out,

and one student lost his participation points for the day because he had gum. Classroom

management is one area that I want to grow in as a teacher, which is a focus on TPE 2-

Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning. I think it is

important as a new teacher that my students understand the expectations and boundaries

set for them in the classroom. Once they are used to the routine and procedures that have

been set, the classroom can function efficiently and minimize the discipline issues.

I have also been trying to incorporate a variety of lessons into my classroom, and I

want to establish a balance between student-centered and teacher-centered lessons. I think

that student-centered lessons are not only effective, but also interesting and help the

students work through content, rather than just listen to me lecture. TPE 1- Engaging and

Supporting All Students in Learning is important for new teachers to be continuously

developing and trying new ideas in the classroom, in order to discover what works well for

their classes.

My students took a quiz at the end of this week, in order to assess their formative

knowledge on the unit content. However, the quiz results show a need to review the

English Civil War and Glorious Revolution, so we will need to adjust the next weeks lesson

to include a quick review to clarify a few key concepts. I also decided with my master
teacher that we would allow students with a 70% or below, to do quiz corrections in order

to raise their grade.
