LAYER 16: BLACK NOISE COLISSEUM (PART ONE)

OP: Implant feat. Anne Clarke Tune Up Your Chips and Circuits (cut)

ISHIKAWA: So, Chise Yomoda. I knew that offline generators dont stay that way for
long, but this was way out of character. They know theyre being watched left and
right, why disregard the most basic principles of discretion. This is not good. Every
move they make, they dig deeper and deeper, and given the chance, theyll dig us all
back in a neat little grave. Shinji, report.

()

ISHIKAWA: Shinji!

()

(Ishikawa takes his glasses off)

ISHIKAWA: You might as well get it over with, Ive been backstabbed more than your
age.

?????: And following the genetic code, I guess your son would say the same, but like
you said, I should just get this over with.

ISHIKAWA: You know where Ill be going if you pull that trigger.

(gunshot echo)

?????: Thats correct.

The echo ran through Lains mind like black noise, a complete tone of a dark bell,
giving prelude to an obscure silence across the alley. Lain immediatly used her
gateway to see through it all. Ishikawa was bending over his equipment, in the floor
below, Shinji was sitting in a couch, head down, turned off cybercomms And no trace
of anything else. Mika immediatly came running down the stairs, and Chisa from the
house on the right. Lain wouldnt move an, even after they called out to her.

LAIN: How can a ghost pull a trigger?

MIKA: What?

LAIN: Gateway information can be used in reality, but its impossible to generate
that much electricity.

LAIN: He came in, killed two Knights, and logged out, without a trace.

CHISA: A Psyche Cybercomm?

LAIN: No, the cybercomm would leave, at most, an electrical log, and not even 10
linked Psyche Processors could generate that much power. And using a generator falls
under the same parameters, no matter what size() and..they didint even notice it
until it was right behind them. ()

MIKA: Its okay

CHISA: Why would they kill the surveillance instead of their targets.

MIKA: Meaning they were the targets; not even the DCU is safe anymore than we are.

CHISA: And us?

LAIN: We were left to take the fall. (looks up) they already triggered the emergency
response. Were leaving!

MIKA: We cant outrun a satellite!

LAIN: Hes waiting outside.

J.J: (car horn) Schoolgirls, dont be late!

J.J took off and in less than 3 minutes, Lains neighbourhood was on the news. Their
status had been upgraded to the public eye. Every spokesman using it for their own
amusement, to justify mistakes, to make end meet, and most of all, to profit, at the
expense of causality. J.J equipped his Honda with a optic LED layer, enabling it to
switch colours at each intersection. He even plotted the route to go over overpasses
and tunnels, just to scrample any all seing eye tracking his movement. It took him
almost an hour to get to a safehouse that was merely 10 minutes away.

J.J: Okay, were home. Play nice this time.

MIKA: I hope your music isnt as bad as your driving. Hows that. Moron.

j.J: Hey, thats no way a lady should behave. Lain digs my music.

CHISA: I really dont, I prefer classics.

J.J: Right okay in you go. Id tell you whats inside, but I figure I dont have to.

LAIN: Thank you, Im glad you got my message back at Cyberia.

J.J: Dont mention it. The old Lain wouldnt have a problema throwing a rave, I knew
something was cooking the minute I started planning it. People dont really go
through that much effort these days anyways In you go.

The three stood outsider a metallic door. Lain couldnt see through it, which was
very rare for her not to have an input. She asked Mika for her sunglasses, another
1st in her playbook.

LAIN: First gateway. Three layers. Theres a closed circuit EMP just after the door.

LAIN: Second gateway. A scanner, pn, roperties unknown, no logs so far

LAIN: Third gatewayblack noise?

LAIN: One log found, read only.

LAIN: Welcome to the Black Noise Colisseum, you should learn to knock, stranger.

MIKA: Lain, take them off.

LAIN: Waitthere something hidden, I could try to(Chisa takes them off)

CHISA: Theyre called humans, be nice.

Mika was already standing next to two other people, so off the radar it was more than
enough of a clearing card for all of them. Lain recognized one of them. A dark corner
at a happy nightclub.

MISAO: Head on in knucklehead, everyones itching to get started. Between you two, I
think theres little we can do, but you seem a little misguided.

MISAO: I know the feeling, were all a bit too tired, but that isnt an exclusive to
stop feeling.

MIKA: Its hard to tell one thing from another these days.

LAIN: ()
LAIN: Why isnt he talking

MISAO: Its in your eyes.

CHISA: Hes not real Lain, hes good and dead

They were all misguided. The tyranny of dreams without sleep and vice-versa. In a
world of black and white, you choose gray. They chose black, but you have to wonder,
what other colours there may be when you go through all three. Time is the true owner
of every living being, and that knowledge has passed. What knowledge know remains,
has the tendency to remain hideen for its own survival. Knowledge is as ephemeral, as
the memory of a being that holds it, and between passing it down or hiding it, it
became quite clear now isnt the time to wonder much about it.

Everyone is a true professional, in position. But without a host, there is no first

or last step, between those who act and those who think. Is reality na illusion held
in high-regard to preserve evolution? No. Evolution is as inevitable as everything
else, its the illusion of choice that grants such assumption.

They all headed in, which a soft spot for electricity. A dead ghost smiles and
disappears.

MISAO: As you can see. The gamers, hackers, and whatever you three are up to, this is
your home now.

MIKA: (smirks) Im guessing your the muscle-

MISAO: Well yeah sure.

MIKA: Re-assuringim going to go ahead and take the no smoking sign, thanks for the
trouble.

CHISA & LAIN: We need a favor!

MISAO: What? If youre speaking about the day-tripper, Arisu is sleeping.

MIKA: Day-tripper?

MISAO: After that little awkward reunion you guys set up, she came straight here, god
knows how. She likes to watch the sun rise, all the time. I dont get it, I was
hoping you would but hey. This is what I like to cal family. J.Js our weekly
supplier, he knows how to geta round, and the guy knows everyone really.

LAIN: Arisu
