This weeks freshman seminar discussed and illustrated the importance in partaking in
internships. The first reason to take part in such was out of class experiences which makes
current students well rounded after graduation, and more likely to land high job offerings.
Contrary to what some believe, academic standing is not enough; social skills and experience is
also needed for students to stand out.
What is an Internship? It is a hands-on job that provides students with the experience and skills
needed to excel in their fields.
The McGill Internship office opened 2009 financed by donations from the Bieler family.
Through the, Facebook group, attending events or accessing the CAPS website, students can find
the internship section where multiple internships are available where they can also see student
profile pages that allow prospective interns to get a behind the scenes prospective.
These internships provide McGill recognized credit, with 10 weeks of full time work hours (35
hrs).
Students can take the course as a pass or fail or as a graded course in which, they must submit
journals, picture poster final paper required for program evaluation.
These internships are not limited to Montreal, on the contrary, they can be anywhere.
Getting involved in campus activities can help discover career interests
In addition, speaking to an advisor can clear up any grey areas.
The PACE program, a program that helps undergraduates determine whether their degree is right
for them.
