Todays seminar discussed the topic of agricultural economics and how it helps solve real
world problems by generating hypothesis, collecting data, test, start over- find solutions.
Taking advantage of technological change, globalization, health environment and globalization
they set to change the conditions of food supply and farming worldwide.
In example, there have been discussions and ideas towards taxing unhealthy beverages to
reduce obesity. In addition, the ideas of fair trade, improving labelling and ending poverty are
also under research and consideration.
Quebec has strong independent poultry, dairy, and maple production markets that are under
international attack by NAFTA.
This course extends beyond agricultural courses and includes courses such as economic theory,
marketing, resource economics, statistics research methods, policy, development economics
Agro-environmental course provides a strong hands- on component such as farm visits working
with animals, industry speakers, internships and also involves basic microeconomic courses.
