Dear Parents,
This week in Readers Workshop, we will read, What Do
You Like? To increase reading comprehension we will look
at these TEKS:
Ask Questions (Asking questions is a good way to
understand the characters and what the story is about)
Identifying Characters (A story often has characters that
do actions in the story) Text Features: Use photographs to
get important information. Photographs tell the reader that
the book is about real people, places, or things. This week
in Writers Workshop we will continue writing our personal
narratives and have an authors celebration. In Math we will
continue our study of shapes.
For Social Studies we will be learning about Hispanic
Heritage. In Science, we will be investigating sound,
energy and light.

Students need a throw away lunch and drink.
Please wear closed toes shoes.
Parents pay $7 at the door.
Meet us there at 9:45. We will leave Crowes Nest at 12:00.
*Please let me know if you plan to attend before the
field trip day so I can have the students Pre-assigned
to adults to help with crowd control!
Some of our Assessments to reinforce at home this nine
weeks:
Identify at least 20 letter names
Identify at least 10 letter sounds
Write first name
Dictate or write ideas on paper using labels or simple
sentences
Identify numerals to 5
Identify shapes
Identify and sort by 1 or more attributes
The expectations are higher for a grade of a 3 and
4.
We will learn three words a week. The words are taught in
the order they appear on this list. There are games to
practice the words on the back of the word wall list. We
also play games every day to learn to read our word wall
words.

Ways you can support your childs learning at home:
Have your child read to someone each night for 10-
15 min.
Have your child practice writing his/her name and
the letters of the alphabet. If your child is ready
he/she may practice writing simple sentences
Play a word wall word game
Continue to remind your child to wash hands after
the restroom and to keep fingers out of mouths
and noses! ( This is a Healthy Habits Grade)
Book Baggies
Inside the bag you will find 3 books your child can use to
practice reading. There is also a Q&A sheet with helpful
tips on the back on how to support your young reader!
Garden Update
We worked in the garden and cleaned it out to get ready
for seeds and plants! Thank you Diane Hurtado.
Wish List
Used greeting cards (Please cut off the back and we will
glue the front on construction paper and make new cards) I
would like to collect these from you all year!
