Teacher is a very special profession.

In Indonesia, teacher described as a role model for everyone, because they

are expected to have a good manner, good insight, and expert knowledge. As Satori, et al, revealed on his book
entitled Profesi Keguruan (2008), teacher generally has special position in the eyes of people.

Thats why, teacher should have high competencies because they are role models at least for the students in the
school.

According to education regulation of Indonesia number 14 year 2015, there are 4 competencies that teacher
should be mastered. Those are Professional Competency, Pedagogy Competency, Social Competency, and
Personal Competency. Then Id like to explain it in detail.

Professional Competency

According to Satori and Ratminingsih, et al, professional competency related to how teachers mastered their
field of study in order to have a foundation for the teaching skill.

The second big question is what is the purpose to have a high level of professional competency, one thing for
sure, if you want to enrich students knowledge, you must enrich your knowledge first. If teacher has a high
professional competency, it can create a successful learning process.

HOW? How can we have a high level of professional competency?

According to Ratminingsih et al, there are five components that should mastered by teachers.

1. Subject Mastery : is an ability to understand and know the knowledge that related to the field of study.
It is included the structure, framework, and the concept.
2. Curriculum: same with subject mastery, before teacher conduct the learning process they have to know
the basic competencies and the core competency of the subject.
3. Material Development: teacher must be innovative to find a new way to teach the students, so the
learning process should not be too monotone.
4. Reflection: one thing for sure, to know the weaknesses, teacher should do some reflection during the
class or after the class. It can cover teachers weaknesses
5. Technology: Technology is an important thing because we cannot develop ourselves if the technology is
not in our hand. So teacher have to know technology to find a lot of information or communicate.
