Digital Lesson Project

I chose to create my Digital Lesson Project about Martin Luther King Jr. This lesson is
developed for fourth grade students who are struggling learners and on-target learners. Civil
Rights is a required unit at my school and we start every year learning about Martin Luther King
Jr and reading his biography I Have A Dream. I created two versions of this lesson. The first
version, also known as group 1 is for struggling learners. The lesson starts with a pre-test, which
is the same as the on-target students since this is just for me to gather information about what the
students already know about Martin Luther King Jr. The video of his famous I Have A Dream
speech for group 1 is shorter than the video for group 2 (on-target learners). The activity after the
video is scaffolded for the students in group 1 to give them guidelines of the expectations. The
article and questions are differentiated for their reading level which is lower than a fourth grade
level (second to third grade level). The second lesson, also known as group 2 is for the on-target
learners. The students take the pre-test about MLK. Then, they watch his famous I Have A
Dream full speech and then the activity after is the same concept but more open-ended than the
activity for group 1. The article and questions are at a fourth grade level to make sure the
students are completing work at their independent level.
