LANDSLIDE EXERCISE
EXERCICE SUR LE GLISSEMENT DE TERRAIN
NUCGE 2008
October, 27-29 2008, Skikda, Algeria
27-29 Octobre 2008, Skikda, Algrie

I- Introduction
The problem of landslide affects more than a half of the city of Constantine (Algeria) that is
more than 120 ha of its area. The site of Ciloc is one of the most studied sites in the region.
In order to compare the results of the different approaches of landslide calculations, a
benchmark of the Ciloc site will be proposed. The aim of the exercise is to determine the
security factor and the horizontal displacements of the inclinometer drills.
It is to note that the solution of this exercise permits to suggest the best convenient manner for
the use of the different approaches of analysis.
It is therefore expected that participants, will use the design approach they use in their
respective home regions.
The results will be presented in a special session.
The geometry of the slope and layers of soil are presented in figure 1. S1, S2 and S9 are the
inclinometric drilling points. The depths are 33, 21 and 29 m respectively. The coordinates of
the points defining the layers and the water table, are given in tables 1 and 2 respectively.
The physical and mechanical characteristics of the layers are given in table 3.

I- Introduction
