Water: over 15,000 gallons for $1.10 Maintenance: ranges from $1.28 to $2.00 per square foot Labor: cost as much as $80,000 to prepare/clear Recreational: cost varies depending on what is needed. Not concerned with staying on budget. What plants will we have? Some plants that we would want to add would probably be native, and here is a list of plants we decided to add:
- `Ohia Lehua (Metrosideros Polymorpha)
- Aikanene - Akulikuli (Sesuvium portulacastrum) - Kou (Cordia Subcordata) - Mao Hau Hele (Hibiscus Brackenridgei) - Hawaiian Olive Tree (Nestegis Sandwicensis) - Pukiawe (Styphelia tameiameiae) - Halapepe (Pleomele Auwahlenesis) - Hala (Pandanus tectorius) - Apple Banana (Musa Acuminata) - WiliWili (Erythrina Sandwices) - Beach Naupaka (Scaevola taccada) Adding Water Sources How would we keep it clean? To keep this forest clean and healthy, wed soon develop a community group. This group would be full time workers or be an attendant on their own time. Hopefully this would mean that if this organization and projects gets bigger then wed be able to start getting donations and volunteers. We would also have rules in the area, either set up on a sign or have people sign a waiver or something when they come in. Most of the rules would be about protecting the wildlife and making sure there arent any people who are climbing the trees or disturbing the area around. Camping and littering are also prohibited. How would we water the plants? To water the plants we would have to create a drip system. A drip system is a low-pressure, low-volume lawn and garden watering system that delivers water to home landscapes in a variety of methods. Though a drip, spray or stream, a drip irrigation system keeps roots moist, but not soaked, using less water than other irrigation techni ues. This way we will save money and time while still giving all the water that the plants need. Why a forest? A large reason of why we picked a forest is because around the world, forest sizes are decreasing horri ically and we need more of them. Especially if we are on an island that used to be lourishing with trees and native plants. We want to bring those things back to the people and have them see what it was like. We need this part of Hawaii back, this part of Maui. I for one, like change but I don't want skyscrapers or large towns somewhere that's supposed to be a paradise. Large stores is what the mainland is for, not Maui. What Native Animals would live there? Some Native animals are: Maui Creeper: A yellow and gray Maui bird also known as a Maui Akialoa.
Maui Akepa : They can be both red,
orange, and green and they live in forests a lot along with the creeper.
Iiwi: The I'iwi is a red bird who
drinks nectar and has a long curved beak Sources: - Maui County's landscape and gardening manual. How much will it be for a plot of Land? According to Maui News Now, the previous HC&S lands (339 acres) were purchased by a company in California for about $9.9 million. I used this information to calculate an average for how much land would cost per acre.
In the end, the cost would be $29,203.54/acre.
Based off of that we came to the conclusion that we could buy 100 acres of land for about $2,920,354 and still have $7,079,646 left over.
